Gun burst quantity and Fuel tanks managment

Hi all, dear forum members!

1. How to change gun burst quantity or does it fixed?

2. Does I need special (over standard auto-start sequence) fuel tanks managment (like at F-5) for taking fuel from tanks firstly?

And does it taking fuel from all of 3 tanks at one time or centre/wing tanks firstly?

I check HB manual, but still feels something wrong with it, beacause fuel-meter makes me confused...

P.S. To HB Team: why all cabin sounds for F-4 was just imported from F-14?🥲

Best Wishes!

P.P.S. Please, relocate this topic to Bugs and Problems...

1. If you mean is it possible to stop the gun as soon as you release the trigger, it is not. When the trigger is released the gun automatically fires and clears itself of ammunition as the barrels stop rotating. How many rounds are fired after releasing the trigger depends if the gun rate is set to high or low, there is no way to set a burst quantity. In reality the gun clearing itself might lead to unfired rounds being returned to the magazine and thus becoming unusable, but I don't believe that happens in the game. I could be wrong though. 🤷‍♂️

2. Yes, you need to actively start fuel flow from externals. External tanks are fed from whatever the switch on the fuel panel is set to, either wings or center.

When an external tank is feeding the internal ones, you'll see the fuel quantity on the totalizer increasing. The totalizer only displays internal fuel, there is no means of displaying external fuel. The pumps will transfer some fuel from the external tanks, then shut off for a bit which will illuminate a green advisory light on the caution panel. After a while, they will start transferring fuel again, and the light will extinguish. This is normal and repeats until the selected tanks are empty.

You know your external tanks are empty when the fuel totalizer stops increasing and the green advisory light does not go away. It takes a while, so don't jump the gun and jettision tanks when you first see the totalizer stop and green light illuminate.

You can change the rate of fire: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/cockpit/pilot/pedestal_group.html#rate-of-fire-switch

You have to choose between the mutually exclusive options of:
* external wing tanks
* external center tank
* internal wing tanks

only one of them can be selected at a time. You do so using the triangle switch: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/cockpit/pilot/left_console/center_section.html#external-transfer-switch

The fuel gauge will only show internal fuel, no external fuel. The external tanks will feed the internal tanks, and engines take their fuel from the internal tanks. So you will see the gauge moving down as the engines take their fuel and then eventually the gauge will walk up again as the external tanks refill them and so on.

Details here: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/systems/engines_and_fuel_systems/fuel_system.html#fuel-system

We have created hundreds of new and unique voice files and sounds for the Phantom.

Yeah, the manual for the gun states 5-11 rounds will fire while clearing and another 4-9 live rounds will be returned to the magazine. I’d be shocked if this behavior wasn’t simulated.

Later versions of the gun have a separate cam track that avoids chambering the rounds while clearing so firing ceases immediately and all 9-20 rounds return to the magazine unfired. I would be shocked if this was not simulated on the F-14.

As for burst quantity, it looks like ground crews could set a specific limit for total rounds fired during an entire flight but not per burst. Guessing that was used for gunnery training.

Yep, considering the depth of system modeling it may very well be. Maybe @Zabuzard could chime in with the answer. I just know I wasn't going to frame-by-frame count how many were actually going down range. 😆

Yes, we would set the round count to 105 and on (limiter) for gunnery training.  We would set it to 999 and on for normal training which left the gun in a safe state....for actual combat, the limit switch would be placed in the off position.  BTW, all USAF Fighter Aircraft are flying with a loaded gun for weight and balance purposes.
