I have some AI Su17 that are in groups of two, that are going to do a bombing run on an enemy position. I set them up with the waypoint "Bombing", select "all" in the box where it says how many bombs to drop. First plane of each group comes in drops bombs 👍 Second plane does it's best Sergeant Schultz impression and just flies over the target going "I see NOTHING!", doesn't drop it's bombs and flies off to the nearest airfield to land. Is there a reason that the second plane in the group doesn't drop?

I can always just make each plane its own group which solves the problem, but I'm curious why only the first one in the group drops.

AI multiship bombing is just bad. The AI is terrible at dividing up tasks and also working as a team. Separating strike flights into single aircraft is a good strategy.

As far as why your mission plays out as it does, did you check the group attack option? This makes all members of the flight attack all targets. If it's not checked the tasks get split up.

Another issue might be formation and waypoint spacing. The AI needs a good bit of distance between the waypoint where it gets the bombing task and the target. Without enough space the AI will get confused and tends to fly all over. Formation also impacts this, Grimes was nice enough to do a lot of testing on that subject:

The strange thing is that until before the last and VERY REVISED patch it worked very well, but now, even with a change of formation at previous waypoints (open column formation) and 10 miles away from the objective, the planes do not bomb.
