Sanka Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hi all, In my attempts to get VAICOM working, I continuously get next error: 9:01:20.762 Could not find a part of the path 'X:\Saved Games\SchigtDE\DCS\Scripts'. Really annoying and see also attached for more information. Good to know is that: The Saved Games folder is moved from its initial location to 'X:\' Location X:\ is a NAS network drive Running VAICOM in the original Saved Games directory does let is start up without issues (such like here above mentioned). Searching the internet the error yield not so much neither gives it me clues where to search further... The Scripts folder exists. Thanks in advance for any support, clues or whatever I can do in order to get this resolved!
sthompson Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Permissions problem possibly? If you are running VoiceAttack as administrator, does your administrator account have full permissions on drive X? Administrator rights on one machine does not necessarily give full permissions on a different machine (the NAS). I'm Softball on Multiplayer. NZXT Player Three Prime, i9-13900K@3.00GHz, 64GB DDR5, Win 11 Home, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, TrackIR 5, VKB Gunfighter III with MCG Ultimate grip, VKB STECS Standard Throttle, CH Pro pedals
Sanka Posted July 17, 2024 Author Posted July 17, 2024 Hi sthompson, Thanks for your response. Really good suggestion! Meanwhile I checked the permissions. This is set to read/write (777) for the Saved Games directory and its subdirs/files (see also attached). So all in all, I guess it does not relate to permissions. Perhaps any other thougths/suggestions? Best regards, Detlev Schigt
Despayre Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I don't have an answer, only suggestions and observations that might be helpful. I would first suggest looking at the errors above the one that says it can't find part of the path, not only does it say it can't find DCS (I'd try and fix that first), but also follows with several IO level errors. Additionally, and this could just be how it was coded, but I note that all the other file paths do NOT have a set of single quotes around them... making me wonder if it's some dumb network + 8.3 filename violation (the space between "saved" and "games" specifically, and yes, I get how that *shouldn't* be an issue, but, there's clearly an issue somewhere, so might as well start by ruling out the simple things). Also, what OS are you running? It looks a whole lot to me like you're running a linux box... with emulation? If so, there's a billion reasons why this could be broken... Another thing that should make no difference, but linux is way more case sensitive than windows is... your tree screenshot shows drive "x:", but VAICOM is looking in drive "X:"... *shrug* maybe?... And finally, if nothing seems to sort it out, the program is very tiny, I don't see much reason you can't store this in the local drive where it would normally be placed, if that works already. For the mere 50MB is it really worth the hassle of trying to run it from a NAS? I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too.
Sanka Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 Hi Despayre, Many thanks for you too about the suggestions and tips. Particularly the one about 'x:\' is a good one. Nice observed! Let me take these suggestions further and report back my findings as soon as possible. Best regards, Detlev
Sanka Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 Hi all, Just to provide (and wrap up this topic for me at least), I reinstalled the PC and DCS. More or less also due to a few other matters, playing around. All in all a good decision, even though it took quite some time to get all settings as I used to have them. Anyway, I left my saved games as it was by default and VAICOM now works. That also means I am not going to tweak this further. Best regards, Detlev Schigt
