Roche Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Hello everyone,, I have now a new DV5 HP laptop wich is great with 4 GB of RAM an ATI HD with 256MB. with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Black Shark is running and I most say that it is more than I ever imagined, the simulation mode is the most complex and relalistic thing I have ever seen in a game. So far I am playing only on Arcada mode but I am practicing every now and then. There was something I noticed when I was installing the game, the DX installation dialog, this one didn't appear in my old laptop so that means that DX wasn't even installing itself!, that was something I didn't notice. So anyone having the same problem should notice the that the DX installation dialog actually starts and the installation process doesn't skip it like my old computer did. Not sure why this happened. EtherealN Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) One word of advice (and I mean this in the best way possible) - if you have ambitions of playing on full realism, drop Arcade mode entirely right now. It will be a big chore to learn everything, but just take it one small thing at a time and spend a day or two learning that and only that part of it. The thing is that Arcade mode will introduce what is called "negative training" - that is, you learn some very critical stuff the "wrong way", so when you do transition to full realism from arcade mode you will first have to "unlearn" the previous training. On the case of DX, DirectX might have detected the presence of a new enough release quicker than the previous installation had time to display it to you, though it is a bit weird indeed if on the older computer it didn't even show any kind of dialog box. But DCS should most likely have worked on any machine that has a half-way recent DirectX install on it. But yeah, a good thing to look at. If you need help or company in learning how to handle the helicopter in simulation mode, I highly recommend the very nice and helpful people over at the Ka50.com and 159th dedicated servers. They are very helpful and I have borrowed server slots there before to give some training to people. EDIT: Awesome to hear that you have it running properly, though, even if it did take the drastic step of a new machine. Congratulations and I look forward to seeing you in the skies. :) Edited June 2, 2009 by EtherealN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Panzertard Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Glad to hear you're up'n running, Roche :) The DX redistribution is built upon "only install what's new" - so you shouldnt have to worry about it. Microsoft do this as part of their re-dist for their OS's. But it also may indicate that you had a problem installing DX on your previous computer - for various unknown reasons. But lets forget that now - we're just glad that you were able to move on, buddy :) EDIT: Ah, yes - go for Real mode straight away - highly recommended. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Roche Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks guys, I was very concerned about this "negative training" I remember it happened to me in Janes F-15, there was a easy radar, easy everything and I used to play with it until I realize that I wanted realism, when I tried to change to "realistic mode" I had a bad time. I could imagine that jumping from arcade to real in the DCS new series will be a a very much more complicated manuever than in Janes series. I will take this weekend for training, I was getting kind of tired anyway of the arcade (for the past 2 nights) mode becasue I really dont like the F4 perspective and that my collective doesn't work on my joystick just with Q and A. Thanks again. Now I have to un install FC, for putting up on my new computer becasue I don't want to forget how to fly LO. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
