Very weird bug in 4th mission (SA + waypoints offseted)

Hi Sandman Simulations,

I have encountered a very weird bug in the 4th mission of the campaign. The aircraft is offseted by ~160 miles on both SA and HSI page when you start the aircraft. During start up the offset jumps to zero and when approaching the CAT it comes back and stays for the rest of the missions. All SA contacts and Waypoints are displayed in the wrong position (keep an eye on the waypoint sequence and the distance to waypoint 0 and 1 in the track file). I first thought my DCS is messed up, but it only happens in the 4th mission of this campaign. I have tried 2 versions of the 4th mission by replaying 3rd with a different outcome ("South of Dubai" and "Defending Dubai"). Both times the issue occurred. When I press skip mission and play the 5th, which is the same scenario as 4th but with a different time of day everything is back to normal again. The only thing that makes 4th mission stand out as far as I can tell is that it is the only night time mission so far in the campaign.

I have no idea how this kind of a bug can occur or how it is tied to the mission or the time of day the mission is played. Track file is just over 50MB so I had to store it externally (don't mind the improper cold start procedure, I just made it quickly to replicate the bug 🙂)

Otherwise very interesting campaign concept, I really like it!

Hi,

Thanks for your report. Sounds very weird indeed. I'll take a look.

I've been searching for the root cause of this bug like there is no tomorrow.

I have the same problem as you have.

Player aircraft is shown at Khasab airport in HSI. F10 map shows aircraft where it really is at the carrier.. When alignment is ready the aircraft position is instantly corrected but about 40 seconds after turning INS-knob to IFA the position returns back to Khasab. It also shows the carrier TACAN at same wrong point on HSI. Waypoints and targets in SA-page seems to be where they should be but player aircraft position is wrong. Very very strange.

It seems to only happen in this stage (not other night stages), only in night time, only when cold starting on the carrier. I tried to set a new unit on the carrier and the problem is still there.

I have no idea what could cause this kind of problem. There is no GPS or INS malfunction set in the mission. I found that if you do alignment normally but don't turn INS-knob to IFA but to NAV the aircraft position seems to stay correct. Until I find the fix (if ever🙄) this could solve the problem.image.jpeg

Thanks for the tip, I'll do that should it happen again! Don't spend too much time on the issue it is only a minor issue (but still an interesting one 😀). I'm glad that you could reproduce it and it's not just me. I have just skipped the mission and flew the same stage again as mission 5 in day light.

Have you checked that the date didn't accidentally get changed to a PRE-GPS year?  That sounds like a GPS issue if it works in NAV but not IFA. 🤔

Hi,

Thank you. The date is correct 2005 but mission starting time is 00:00. Changing this did fix the bug. Might need to report ED about this. At least during testing phase of the campaign it wasn't like this.

Thanks to you I now know how to fix this😀

Now that you say that, I wonder if it's the day change bug 🤔 (not sure what it's actually called).  The one where if you cross over a day it can mess with things.  Somehow your symptoms seemed familiar but I couldn't remember from where.  Could be from that.  Of course I can't find it in a search right off to get the details.  Glad you got it fixed!
