LeLv30_Superbus Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 (edited) Just completed Oilfield with a smile on my face. I recommend it and would buy it again even at full price. It had just the right amount of challenge for me with < 30 hours in Mi-8MT and about the same amount in a few other DCS rotorcraft. Briefings were especially well made, but you have to read them very carefully every time. Failing to do this, I got lost a few times or didn't know where I was supposed to land. I think I completed every mission with the first try except when DCS crashed once (a mod was the cause). I especially liked the navigation challenges, because they created emergent gameplay. Instead of trying to hold my hand (which I dislike) the author taught me to use the navigation aids of Mi-8. So, I thought about what they could do, how they actually work and that was all it took to get me back on track every time. Very satisfying! If I had to nitpick about something, I did not find the humour funny; listening to one crewmember pick on another was... not entertaining to put it nicely. I also wondered is it even realistic that a real military organization would allow bullying like that when your superior officer is right there and can hear everything. Voice acting was fine except the technician who guided me in a foreign language even though I have English locale. I actually tried to learn what forward, back, left and right are, but the language course was too short. I think the problem is not related to just the Oilfield campaign, though.
