Ahdidaas Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Yo! About a year ago, I got a cheap, $20, cooling pad for my gaming laptop as I noticed that that the gpu was throttling due to excessive heat. Recent updates, 2.9.6 specifically, brought some excessive stuttering that I wasn't able to track down to anything specific -- until I took a guess that it was throttling again. So last week I bought a $60 one that seals the laptop, has high powered fans, etc.. just to see if it made a diff. Well, after playing for hours all weekend, I can say, that yes, my laptop was indeed throttling itself. I am under the belief that since last year, enough has been changed where the strain on the GPU has increased and I've been hitting that throttle again. Wanted to mention it, as I know others have stuttering issues that don't completely make sense. Cheers!
okopanja Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 In addition to using sealing cooling pad make sure your fans run at 100% when DCS is running. You may repaste the cpu/gpu, but this can be risky. If you used your laptop with DCS for 2 years, your paste is effectivily a stone by now.
rob10 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Likely not as easy to do with a laptop as a desktop, but just blowing the dust off everything may also help improve your cooling since dust is a surprisingly good insulator. 2
