buster jangles Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 I'm sure some of you remember the awesome search and rescue server with the sar and firefighting. Does anyone have a single player mission file or know of one? I miss that so much, but can't find a mission file and it seems beyond my current capabilities to build one. Anything similar I could build off would be amazing.

I know of the the great rescue servers that apparently and sadly have gone the way of the Dodo. I've tried with a modicum of success to reimagine the rescue SAR part (look for the "Angels" missions at ED user files), and have been working on some fire fighting miz for a while now. Unfortunately have I never embarked on a fire mission on the rescue servers (just some SAR), so lacking a role model I had to imagine and develop everything myself (fire spread, water delivery, firefighting workflow etc) Below please find a proof-of-concept mission that simply tests the two major new modules that I've developed, and now am reading for a mission a la rescue server: "inferno" which is a zone in which fires can burn and spread (and if not contained, will drive your server against the wall, so all inferno fires are automatically limited in spreading), and "airtank", a companion module that allows airtank-capable aircraft (currently only some helicopters: Hook, Hind, Huey, Hip and Kiowa - kiowa with a pityful tank of 500kg/1000 lbs retardant) to suck up flame retardant/water and drop into inferno fires. null (ED, your editor code SUCKS more than those turbo pumps) To try the mission, run it, first go to Senaki and get an overview of the firefighting workflow : get into a "Training" heli at senaki (they all support airtank) go to communications - Other - Firefigting and choose "Activate Intake" to fill up your flame retardant tanks. You are inside a refill zone (marked by white smoke), so your tanks are full, and your helo will be *heavy*. lift off, and fly to wards the nearby fire (that has ben growing in the past few seconds). While approaching you prepare to fight the fire. There are two ways to drop flame retardant manually, by choosing comms - Other - Firefighting and choosing "Manual Release". This will drop the contents of your tanks at 1000kg/sec until they are empty. or by going above 300 ft AGL, and comms - Other - Firefighting and choosing "Arm Autodrop Trigger". This automatically triggers release when you get below 300 AGL (note that this mode is very difficult, and intended for advanced pilots who can judge their approach) Once you trigger a drop, blue smoke will mark the location(s) where your load hit the ground. If you hit the fire cell it will go out after a while. For each drop you get a fire chiefs feedback if and where your retardants hit. Once you douse the fire, you can re-ignite the training fire it via coms-Other-Ignite! menu Once you can reliably put retardant into, and around the fire, turn your eyes towards the 'real deal'. There's a forest fire (which looks different each time that the mission runs - this is the inferno test ground that uses a contained-spread fire, starting somewhere in the forest, never spreading across the river, and anly spreading to 10 more locations after starting). There's a (white smoke) station that you can use to refill the easy way. And there is the river, where, after you activate your intakes, you can refill your tanks with water. BE CAREFUL, as your take on 1000kg / second until your tanks are full. Once your are topped up, fight the flames in the forest until they are all gone There's also an industrial complex that you can set fire to (Ignite! menu) and then attempt to extinguish This is still all proof of concept stuff, fires burn at accelerated (10x what I intend) rates, so they spread really, really fast (watch how quickly the forest fire spreads after mission startup) My main intent is to get some feedback from the community so I can build a 'real' firefighting mission. So the more feedbnack you give, the better the "real" mission can become - it's up to you firestarter.miz Edited August 28, 2024 by cfrag
