Láser module is here. Time to start building.

Remember to put a protective plate underneath if you're cutting. On my 3040 engraver, I use a ceramic block designed for brazing, but that might be too heavy for a 3D printer bed.

Yeah I've been thinking about options for that. maybe just some thin sheet metal

I have just finished the design for a PCB for the KDU to the best of my ability. I am no engineer and this was certainly a challenge. More so than any other of the ones I made.

I intend to power the LEDs using a MOSFET https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005005975338275.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.1d367a9d6caj4G&mp=1&gatewayAdapt=glo2esp

For an LCD screen I intend to use a 24x2 LCD module connected to Arduino Mega with an IC2 board

If any of you wizkids out there would like to take a bit of time to take a look at the wiring diagram and point out if I'm doing anything wrong your help and advise will be much appreciated. I'm posting a zip file with the fusion files.

I won't post GERBER files for printing the PCB until I have verified it works. Anyone who uses this without knowing what they are doing do so at their own risk.

Still need to figure out the coding for the LCD screen but in the meantime I'll work on the program for the switches and LEDs.

Today my trial version of Fusion expires. When I picked it up I had no idea how to use it. I'm amazed at how far I got in just 30 days. There has been a lot of work done with just watching a few tutorial videos.  It is a testament to Autodesk how easy this software is to use and of course a very big shoutout to A Hornets Nest. Without his videos and advise I would have never been able to get this far.

Hope you guys find the stuff I've done so far useful. The next weeks as I start building stuff will be interesting. We'll see if my work, especially in the PCBs, bears good fruit. That has been the most challenging bit.

There's a "Not for profit" option, which is what I use.

There are limitations, but I don't know how it'll affect what you're using it for.  I use KiCAD for my schematics, etc.

That could work, but might spoil the bottom surface with reflected light burning.

First trial run with the laser. Really struggling with alignment.

Circles are not perfectly round. I think the acríylic plate is shifting as the bed gets swung around.

Is the bed underneath magnetic?  If it is, maybe some magnets would help to stop it shifting.

Under the honeycomb bed there is a Steele plate to protect the heated bed. The honeycomb bed itself is not magnetic but has some rubber feet that I think is doing a good job of preventing shifting. I think the problem is in the workpiece shifting a tiny bit over the honeycomb bed. Will be doing more tests today. Maybe its just about reducing speed to prevent shifting

Reducing speed helps,especially if the print has some mass to it.Softening the jerk and acceleration wont hurt either...
I had a lot of dramas with my Kobra Max 2 with big heavy prints.

I think my main problem is with the x axis gantry not the work shifting itself. I tried a couple of test grids and the walls in the squares are wobbly in the X axis. I might need to upgrade my Ender 3 Pro to a linear rail. I'll try to disassemble the X axis an take of the extruder and see how that improves things.

I think I have finally dialed in. It can still be improved, but it will do for now.

Now that I've started the building process I've been working on getting reacquainted with my Creality Ender Pro printer which I have not used for quite a while. after much experimentation and a few upgrades I think I can start printing again. To start with I have split the bodies of the MFDs and screen mounts to be able to print them in a 220 x 220 bed.

As always the new files will be uploaded to the google drive. Also I have posted the left console and all components to thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6766782 and will upload all others as time permits for anyone interested

Preparing to print a Cyclic. Have high hopes for this one. I'm going to print the Cyclic and the parts for the 737diysim throttle with Anycubic Tough Ultra black resin. from what I've seen that will make the parts as tough as FDM printing minus the layer separation issues you can get from FDM printing, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

I'm also waiting on a Co2 laser as I was not too happy with the results on the Ender 3 Pro and the Diode laser, plus tomorrow the PCBs for left and right consoles arrive. Its time to start building in earnest.

Excellent project my friend - I'm doing likewise with a Hornet pit AND an apache as one (clicky, clicky!!).

Let me know how you get on with master warning and master caution lights / led outputs.  They dont seem to work even when using the address and mask as per BORT.

bravo!!

Would love to see your project. You raise an interesting point. Although I have done the coding for the master arm and warning I have not tested them yet. I’ll try and see what happens. Can you share the lines of code you are using? I’m not sure if you are using the version of the code that uses macros.

Hi, they do work for the Apache .. i dont have any issues.

Really?  So.................  master caution and warning both light up your led's in your pit?

I'd be interested to see how you managed to do that my friend because all that is happening my end is my leds lighting up when the button is pressed in sim, rather than being an output in sync.

for example:

DcsBios::LED pltIntlMcautionBtn(0x801c, 0x0100, 43);

DcsBios::LED pltIntlMwarnBtn(0x801c, 0x0200, 45);

This is supposed to ensure the LED is lighting up when the master caution/Master warning is activated in the sim.  But..................................  nope.

Board is a Mega.

Thank you.

Sure - here you go pal:

DcsBios::LED pltIntlMcautionBtn(0x801c, 0x0100, 43);

DcsBios::LED pltIntlMwarnBtn(0x801c, 0x0200, 45);

looking forward to seeing what Jonny Chicago says because he has it working..........................
