Pilot Blackout When wounded

This might be intentional behavior 

Player wounded and blacked out while AI is hovering. 
 

There is no way to switch seats and switch controls. 
 

The AI just hovers until fuel exhausted?

Can we retain the ability to switch AI off and die with dignity?
