Maverick attack

How can I get the AI to attack tanks with mavericks.   Not my wingman, but another group.   I am trying to make a simple mission where I escort.  Specifically the F4 is doing the attacking.  

EDIT, shortly after posting this I tried giving the flight an (afac) task and they finally engaged the targets.   I tried this with Sead tasking and they would note engage the tanks.   Tasking them with ground attack gives you no option yo attack a specific unit
