Find a video that sets up the G2 in VR and follow it. I have dozens of those, the one video is like an example of how I am hoping this will all work. I have a couple others like one showing a UH-1 hovering between the tails of an A-10, somthing near impossible without VR 3D.
RotoDan Posted November 20, 2024 Author Posted November 20, 2024 OK, I found a tutorial how to launch games from your WMR house. Trying to figure out how to get games on a wall, where they can be launced without SteamVR running. Problem is what other forums and videos show is very different than what I have. Really complicated and confusing for me.
RotoDan Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 OK, I am convinced my instalation of DCS is not going to run. What I am doing now, is downloading DCS within SteamVR and hope that fixes things. The long wait is on, for my slow internet, 24 hours and at the 9% mark.
RotoDan Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 Damn, a bit over 8 more days of downloading.

Just a heads-up that the Steam version and the Standalone version are completely identical (same files and everything). I'm assuming you don't own any modules on the Standalone version as you won't be able to play them on the Steam version though due to licensing. sleighzy Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) In this earlier comment (https://forum.dcs.world/topic/362630-hp-reverb-g2-flying-ah-6/page/2/#findComment-5554723) you posted some screenshots of your settings. On the screenshot that shows "Startup and desktop" you have a box ticked "Start Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR automatically when Mixed Reality Portal is launched". If you untick that box does it prevent SteamVR (completely close it first) from automatically opening like it is right now and just launches DCS with WMR without bringing up SteamVR? Yes, and that puts me in my WMR house. I can launch SteamVR from there but only in 2D mode. I am downloading DCS for SteamVR in 3D, total 9 day download. I would like to find the destination folder, so I can see the progress without having to use the goggles and launch SteamVR. If I launch DCS from WMR, it only starts in 2D. At the point it shoud show your gams across the bottom, DCS just shuts down. I believe this is because this is stand alone DCS and not DCS for SteamVR. Edited November 23, 2024 by RotoDan

I do have a few modules that run fine on my desktop, but not in WMR or SteamVR. So, How does one get around this licencing thing.

Standalone will still use SteamVR for headsets that need (or want to) use SteamVR as there OpenXR runtime. All you are downloading is DCS from Steam, it does not have anything to do with SteamVR. 3 hours ago, RotoDan said: I do have a few modules that run fine on my desktop, but not in WMR or SteamVR. Rainer_B. Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 My Way to get DCS in the G2 is extremly simple. Start WMR in Windows(10), power on the G2. Wait until WMR sees the G2. Start DCS via Shortcut. No Steam VR active. Get the G2 on the Head, the House is on the Screen. Wait a little Time and DCS will start. Next, flying. As Controller i use a Logitech MX Ergo Trackball. No need for Handcontolers. I never used this. 1

Rainer_B. Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Normal Windows Desktop Shortcut. No Magic there. Drop the DCS Icon on the Desktop and that is it.

RotoDan Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 Another 'on hold thing' I just noticed DCS is doing an automatic update (the last 12 days) I know I asked if my hideously slow internet could be problematic with this, I beleve it is. Little I can do about that until I get my fiber optic installed.
