Ranger1882 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hi All I currently use my Oculus Quest 2 VR headset in DCS F18, which is great, but am thinking of upgrading to a Meta Quest 3, for a better experience and given that my OQ2 is getting on a bit. Accordingly I was wondering if anyone else has done this and has any thoughts re the experience, pros/cons/things to consider/was it a massive improvement kind of thing? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/help! Cheers
diego999 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 (edited) I did exactly that. Q3 is a logical evolution of the Q2. It's better in almost every sense, but it's not a massive 'omg I can't believe this' improvement. Still, it was worth it for me. Q3 pros: - Lenses. Clarity from edge to edge of the image. No more blurriness outside of the center sweet spot. This is the main difference. - Better sound. - Massively improved color passthrough (this isn't important in DCS, but still). - Better tracking (it started worse than the Q2 but it has improved over time). - Better resolution (cockpit is perfectly readable with PD 1.0, in Q2 I had to push the resolution to overcome the lacking definition / fresnel lenses. So Q3 looks better while pushing less pixels overall compared to Q2). Q3 cons: - Standard strap is atrocious. Very uncomfortable. - Battery comsumption is a little higher than Q2. A couple of weeks ago I plugged my old Q2 for the sake of nostalgia after 6 months of using the Q3. It was awful and I unplugged it again after five minutes. I'd say go for it. Maddaawg Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 If you can afford to add the BoboVR S3 Pro, I would add that. It is far more comfortable than the stock strap and adds battery power too. Meta Quest 3, Intel i9-10900K, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 64GB DDR4 3200, ASUS ROG Strix z-490-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive

Obic Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 (edited) If your GPU can sustain it Encode Bitrate to 800 to 900 is really good with link cable. (Can be any high quality USB A to USB C 3.2) Then scale up the resolution in the oculus app, I suggest keeping 72hz as it allows you to run without ASW if your GPU can do it. Can you please tell me whats exactly the difference which such a high bitrate? I'am using a RTX 4070ti super and noticed no difference between 500 and 950, only some "stutters when it comes to sound" i9-9900K / Bios Profile XMP2 / Rog Strix Z-390F Gaming / ASUS TUF Geforce RTX 4070Ti Super / 32GB HyperX Fury 2666 / Saitek X52 HOTAS / Pico 4
