KosPilot Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 My wingman is a greater liability than any other threat in DCS: Black Shark!!! :helpsmilie: Here is the deal: Every 3rd mission ends in disaster because I'm downed by the rookie wingman crashing into me. Level flight, left/right turn, hover and rejoining/breaking formation... it doesn't matter, the guy must be smugglin' Vodka! Wingman is already cheating in the sense of not being hampered by rotor disc displacement, so why not adding a little bit of extra code to make him keep his distance?!
Panzertard Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Actually - I havent crashed into a wingman yet - neither in SP missions/campaign nor in MP online (with the real drunk tards flying next to me). Makes me curious how someone is having this problem quite often - and others havent seen it. :) But then again we can't really tell how you fly - and in which situation this happens. Maybe some tracks with pictures etc can give us a clue? (Tracks may not play back 100% same every time or on other computers - so a picture as well as a timestamp from a track might be invaluable). 1 The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Elnocho3 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I've read quite a lot of posts referring to 'drunk' wingmen crashing into the player's helicopter, however i've never encountered this problem. I tend to mess about with formation spread and type depending on the situation. Maybe give that a try, for example i usually tell him to spread out when approaching the target zone. Hope this helps 1 PC spec: i9 9900KS @ 5.1ghz, 32GB RAM, 2 TB NVME M2, RTX 3090 Peripherals: TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Flight Pedals, Rift S, Custom UFC

OK, I'll save some tracks as you suggested.

Hope this helps Thank you, and you are right. The crashes are (mostly) happening when in the combat zone. I should apply the right formation both for tactical advantage and to assure adequate spacing for combat manouvers.
Elnocho3 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 No problem, if you find the workload of controlling the helicopter and instructing your wingmen with the keyboard too much, you could try a voice activated command program such as http://www.dwvac.com/ Then you can keep your hands firmly on the joystick/HOTAS while talking to your wingman, it takes a lil bit of setting up but it makes flying more enjoyable and means less keyobard stabbing in the middle of a fight Have fun!
