sepruda Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 After nuking the mortar emplacement with my CBU, I'm trying to hit the technical with my Maverick. Unfortunately I really suck at mavericks, and I'm wondering what's the trick to locking a moving target up with a maverick? I can't use GMT with the mav selected, and locking the technical with my TGP, I have trouble aligning it on my maverick view before I'm out of time. At some point the truck disappeared and the mission stalled...
Solution Gilligan Posted December 23, 2024 Solution Posted December 23, 2024 How are you boresighting the mavs? on the ground or in the air? I have a much better correlation if I do it in the air at max range. I would try setting the boresight off the destroyed mortar site right at 8 miles or so. Once you establish the point track on the truck with the TGP, try zooming out a bit so it more closely matches with the view you get with the Mav seeker. Start your attack run at about 15 miles out so you have time to line everything up. 1
sepruda Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 That's good advice. I actually didn't boresight, I never had much success doing that. But I'll try to do it in air as you suggest. And yes I was definitely way to close when I tried locking, but was afraid to lose the truck. 1
Gilligan Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 If you get a solid air boresight at about the range you want to lock it at it will almost always be dead on when you set the point track and SOI shifts to the mav seeker screen. Sometimes if you are too close, even if you get a good lock, the mav won't be able to maneuver and get the hit regardless. IMO you need to have it off the rail before 4 miles.
