Yes, many of us 'cynics' are already aware of the greed-agenda motives of these so-called reviewer/influencers. Free kit and lots of monetized clicks & views, whatever product they've been given to 'review' will get the solid thumbs-up, with a couple of minor "nit picks" to give a veneer of credibility.

VR Flight Sim Guy, clearly miffed that Pimax didn't send him a Super to 'test and review', so he advises people not to pre-order, citing a clearly erroneous bunch of BS about how it will HAVE to be down-sampled from native rez and how that will degrade the image (he thinks a VR panel is the same as a monitor, lol). And then tells people to wait for him to get a purchased one with his opinion before getting one themselves.

I pointed that out, he called me a 'troll' and removed my ability to reply. Lol. Furiously building his echo-chamber over there.

Though I saw that specific video and share same feeling that sort of connection between his comments and not received a OEM device for review. But overall, I still enjoy his most of videos which are sim dedicated ones.

I didn’t get that from his video at all (about not getting a review sample), unless I just watched a different video, but more so from the way Mark from GYGO was treated by the customer service at Pimax for his troubles and ongoing quality control issues. Which, to be fair, is sound advice.

I have an ongoing issue with their customer service with some after sales stuff where one of their CSR agents straight out lied to me about a promotion. Lie about the small you lie about it all.

In any case I usually wait for a consensus of multiple YouTube reviews and the DCS and other flight-sim community reviews as well.

I've half watched quite a few of his videos but I've spotted the trend where he'll give the latest new freebie a good run in the sun, doing his best to keep more coming. Praises it up (whatever it is) but adds a couple of minor "nit picks" to give the veneer of the afore-mentioned credibility.
He's hidden my comments from public view so he can have his tantrum but not bright enough to calculate the screenie, otherwise I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have revealed his true self with this doozie. Yep, this is the guy handing out advise to the VR public. Mark (GYGO) on the other hand, even after giving Jaap from Pimax a platform to respond, didn't stop whaling on them in his comments. He doesn't whore for freebies, which is why I regard anything he says in HIS videos as legit. Influencers have an obligation to strive for ethical standards and that should be obvious. Posting videos with 'opinions' based on badly erroneous data, especially where they can do financial harm to a company, not on.

Anyway, here's Steve in his own words. Priceless! 🤣

To be honest with you, you don‘t come along very nicely and reasonable in that conversation either.
Since I could not find any reviews of the Crystal Super, I guess nobody has received one for that purpose yet. So why would he be pissed at Pimax? This makes even less sense, since he actually recommends the Pimax Crystal Light as the best VR headset (in the still affordable pricerange). He even mentions recent quality control issues with Pimax. So I would say, that this is still a very balanced POV. Bear in mind, that this is not an in-depth review of any of the headsets recommended in the video.

At the end of the day, youtubers express their opinions(!) and everybody should be aware of that and build his/her own decision on not just a single review.

Absolutely, but unfortunately a lot of his advice is based upon completely erroneous information. Plus no mention of the very decent discount (over $400) that Crystal owners can get if they put their pre-order in by Dec 31st.

I did a video. Sure, I "don't come along very nicely" but I have no hidden motives. Shoot from the hip at clearly deserving spivs, hucksters and charlatans.

If he was honest he wouldn't hide critical comments from his viewers, that's pretty basic ethical-101. Be transparent and take the rough with the smooth. But image-manipulation is standard with these 'influencers'.

Yeah, you definitely have a valid point there.

I haven't seen the Pimax reviews but just wanted to say that I do find his open-mouthed thumbnails pretty cringey. I refuse to click on those just out of principle, hah

I know nothing of this, I moved away from VR a while ago, it was just too costly and separated me too much from my family and the environment around me. Don't get me wrong, I think VR is fantastic and even worked in VR production from 2014 until 2018. It's just not for me, at the moment.

Anyway, I had a quick look at this fellas channel. The clickbait title screens are striking. Googly cartoon eyes pasted on, lots of soyjack gurning. I know that stuff works to get attention but for me I find it manipulative and indicative. If someone does it once or twice as a satirical thing I get it, although I still find it hugely annoying.

For me, it works as a dog whistle - scammer, grifter, or at least, a person who values the attention market more than the subject they're covering. I'm sure that not everyone who has that surprise face, pointing etc is like this, but really. It rubs me up the wrong way.

Unfortunate, it seems to really work to put on weird faces for the thumbnails, but it also irritates me a lot.
