Roche Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi all Last thing I remember was creating a new Pilot on the log book, for someweird reason it didn´t let me erase the old pilot log and told me that I couldn´t do that:huh: Ok so I decided to quit and leave it there to see if BS will work after relunching it, I got stuck on the loading BS screen and never pass from there so I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del. I got this error message : ...\blackshark\modules\me_logbook.lua:141: attempt to index field ´player´ (a nil value) Anyone has had this problem? is there something I can do? or should I just uninstall and reinstall? Panzertard Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Here's a thread explaining the same issue: DELETED PILOT/ERROR MESSAGE!! NEED HELP!! Hope it fixes your issue :) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Roche Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Great, thanks,, I had tried a search for the issue but didnt found it. Thanks I will try it tonight and see if it works, I hope is being solved on the Patch as well as this "Fraticide" deal. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Yes, I had to do quite a few seraches to find it myself - too much noise and irrelevant stuff coming up when you search for stuff like this. Not very strange that you couldnt find it. :) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Roche Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Ok, so I couldn't find anything to delete in this folder as described in here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42619 x:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook Running as an administrator didn't work either. :( [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 So assuming you installed the game in "C:\Program Files\" - you're saying that "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook" does not contain a Players.lua file? If so - maybe if one of us can send you an unused Players.lua it might fix it (altough the other post indicated that it should be automaticly created). The mind is like a parachute. Roche Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 This is my installation folder... empty.. If someone can send me one what should I do? paste it and then delete it? C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook Could it be something else? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Mini workaround - attempt 1 I've tried to recreate an empty Players.lua - it's there in the ZIP. (Notification: This player.lua is totally "fake" - I've removed and updated sections to try to create a "none" pilot with some data in it). Not sure if it will work, but try: 1. Extract the Players.lua to the logbook (See file attached) 2. Start up the game - if it starts, then proceed to 3 3. See if you can create a new pilot this time - or rename/remove the "fake" one I put in there If you still have problems - it might indicate that we have a file-problem in your Windows volume. 1. Run a CMD prompt - and the command: CHKDSK C: /F Answer Y to any question regarding unmount/schedule for next boot. 2. Then reboot. 3. Then try the pilot stuff again / or without a players.lua file (which it should accept - because it should have been recreated if there are no pilots in the game). More data And oh, I think there defintively should be some traces of this error in the Ka-50\Temp folder. 1. Any Error.log or similar - nice reading maybe Other related (startup or error) files? 2. Any .CRASH log files perhaps? Would like to see this too If you need to attach files here you either have to: 1. Paste the content as a post/quote or 2. Zip the files before attaching.Players.zip The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Roche Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the procedure Panzer Unfortunely it didn't work. I tried putting your players.lua in my logbook and lunch the game but I got the same error and couldn't get in Then I tried rebooting and deleting your players.lua, and lunching the game and same result. I tried running a CHDSK on the cammand propt but this Vista crap tells me that I do not have previledges for doing that and that I need to be at a higher level whatever that means. I dont have any error logs in the Temp folder, it's empty. edit.......... Running BS as an administrator gets the game going,.. why is that? Edited July 9, 2009 by Roche admin. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the procedure Panzer I tried running a CHDSK on the cammand propt but this Vista crap tells me that I do not have previledges for doing that and that I need to be at a higher level whatever that means. You must rightclick Command Prompt as use "Run as Administrator". edit.......... Running BS as an administrator gets the game going,.. why is that? It could indicate that the game really needed to modify some stuff - and finally was able to do it because you ran in as an administrator. That means you (the game) dont have enough permissions to change something - like a file (create players.lua) or modify registry (or whatever it's trying to do). There are several ways around this: 1. Always run the game as an administrator (bad practise according to security considerations) 2. Find the permission problem and fix it permanently - an ED fix/patch: (Game is installed in Program Files x86 - games (or you) normally doesn't get write permission when running the game - hence the game should move all the files it needs to modify to the C:\Users\<myuser>\AppData\Local\Eagle Dynamics - in accordance with MS design guidelines). 3. Find the problem and fix it manually (if it's the Ka-50 folder which is the problem): * Grant "users" permission:Modify on the "Eagle Dynamics" and subfolders Or full Control if Modify isnt enough. (Note: bad security practise) 4. Install the game somewhere else, at C:\Eagle Dynamics or D:\Games\Eagle Dynamics - and perform #2 on those folders as necessary (user = Full Control instead) Edited July 9, 2009 by Panzertard The mind is like a parachute. Roche Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks for the help Panzer, I will try re intallling my game. Hope it works. I will lose one more activation I guess. Nothing has work so far, I manage to run a CHDSK with administrator previledges and try to reboot and then I tried the Player.lua move but something is not right. I could survive running BS as an administrator but my key layout doesn´t work and I have to play in a window. I tried to change all previledges to the Eagle Dynamics folder and subfolders, I grant all acces to them and same problem. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
