Ok, I have another question.  With the VR headset on, how do you turn dials and switches in the cockpit?  I have the WinWing ICP and MFD'S.

I use head tracking combined with JoyToKey to reset and offset cursor position, with a wireless "finger mouse" strapped to my joystick. I've been using this setup for ages and it works well. I can reach any switch in the cockpit. I also map a lot of common tasks to the HOTAS and "double up" by mapping one button to be the shift key.

PC specs: 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64GB RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - (for posts before March 2025: 5800x3d - rtx 4070) - VR headsets Quest Pro (Jan 2024-present; Pico 4 March 2023 - March 2024; Rift s June 2020- present). Maps Afghanistan – Channel – Cold War Germany - Kola - Normandy 2 – Persian Gulf - Sinai - Syria - South Atlantic. Modules BF-109 - FW-190 A8 - F4 - F5 - F14 - F16 - F86 - I16 - Mig 15 - Mig 21 - Mosquito - P47 - P51 - Spitfire.

Hello all, I am new to this and just joint a squad and one of the pilots suggested I should switch to VR because I was having trouble seeing small objects on the ground trucks tanks etc.  I have some questions. How do you do microphone and hear other pilots in multiplayer? I was thinking of purchasing the Meta Quest 3.  Will my computer be ok to handle a VR setup.  I am also using the WinWing MIP and ICP in my setup now. Any recommendations or suggestions? Computer specs below.

Processor         AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor              4.20 GHz

Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.2 GB usable)

System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

 32 GB RAM, 2Tb ssd,

Edition                Windows 11 Pro

Version               23H2

Nvidia RTX 4070

hmm isn´t that a bit of a super weird advice? I mean spotting is almost the only thing that is way better on a high res monitor over VR. I will see if I change my mind with the 2x4k meganex but I honestly expect my 48" 4k oled monitor still being way better in term of spotting small objects in the distance. I have been dormant for some years I last used like rift S for dog fights and there it was a huge problem with spotting due to the low resolution and the need of lenses that you don´t need with monitors to magnify the image.

If he mean the headtracking in VR is better perhaps but TrackIR worked quite well for me.

That said the immersion in VR is on a total different level of course but I am just not sure it will help with your spotting capabilities even if you pay insane amounts of money.

I had been using a Quest 3 for a while.  I recently applied DLSS4 to DCS.  With that the graphics on my Quest 3 improved slightly.   But the 2d graphics vastly improved to the point where I went back to Trackir on my cheap 55 inch 4k TV.  I have a mediocre system (4070 graphics card) and I can crank all the graphic settings to the absolute max (including turbulance) and get super smooth and fanastic looking graphics.  I can now spot like never before.   To me the great improvement in graphics more than makes up the lack of VR immersion🙂.

With DLSS 4 you need to push the resolution high to minimize ghosting. If you use QVFR in VR you can maximize the foveated region to optimize performance. Make sure you use preset K. I had a 4070 until recently and you can get a decent performance with this GPU.

Yes, I agree. Ive tried preset J and K on VR.  But even with all those settings, the 4k monitor graphics are far superior on my system.  I'm almost tempted to say perfect.
