chezee Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Hello, I've been struggling with myself for a while with the switch to VR - after reading the forums - I know it's not an easy road (no plug&play - but im ok with that). I am thinking of buying the Quest 3 (can get 2nd hand for abt 350 Euro, Quest Pro seems to be unavailable in my country - Poland, so lets assume that 350 Euro is my budget for this possible adventure). I would like to ask you - experienced VR pilots - is this a good way to go or will it just lead to opening a pandora's box? additionally - I wonder if my configuration can cope with VR on Quest 3 (below my current configuration). At the moment I am mainly learning to fly AH-64, I am using basic head tracking (opentrack with beam eye tracker / stableview)... next is F16 on my path. Will be grateful for your advice, have a nice day. My spec: Ryzen 7 5800X3D Gigabyte RTX 3080 ti Gaming OC 32 GB DDR4

Yes it is a good way to go but yes it will also involve Pandora's box. 4 hours ago, chezee said: I wonder if my configuration can cope with VR on Quest 3 (below my current configuration) Yes it will but be prepared for some work optimising settings. 4 hours ago, chezee said: At the moment I am mainly learning to fly AH-64, I am using basic head tracking (opentrack with beam eye tracker / stableview)... next is F16 on my path. I don't have experience with AH-64 but I understand that it is a performing hog. I have the F-16 and this runs well I'm VR. 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). chezee Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 Thnx for reply - it looks that I will get my Quest 3 in abt 3-4 hours... (looking at the configruation troubleshooting... maybe it is a time to plan tomorrow as day off... ) not sure how to start - but my overall idea is this: + profile J or K + QVFR or maybe better one is this:

(looking at the configruation troubleshooting... maybe it is a time to plan tomorrow as day off... ) not sure how to start - but my overall idea is this: + profile J or K + QVFR or maybe better one is this: Start with meta link cable at 72Hz and resolution set with the slider max to the right (about 2800 Mp). You can use Oculus Debug Tool to increase the resolution by x1.2 or QVFR (below). Try setting the bitrate as high as possible. A safe start is about 500 mbps. For sharpening set this to quality. If you use QVFR try the default settings first then try playing with QVFR settings in the config file (or using Quad View companion app). The sweet spot is probably setting the foveated resolution to about 1.3 with 0.35 x 0.35 and peripheral resolution to about 0.4. Set sharpening to about 0.1 - 0.2, otherwise it is too much if sharpening is also enabled in ODT. For DLSS I find that preset K is the best but to completely get rid of ghosting you need to push the resolution up quite high, which is where QVFR helps as you can do this just to the centre region. You might find some issues with 32Gb RAM so I would suggest setting visibility range to Medium, keep terrain shadows off and set the resolution sliders (for trees, objects etc) to the middle. Keep preload radius to about 60000 or less and LOD switch to about 0.6. 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). chezee Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 (edited) Now im trying to turn on handtracking - but looks a bit hard way thru link. Rest is working great (just cannot turn OXRTK overlay - shortcuts not working, but somehow I was able to turn on QVFR thru settings.cfg) Edited April 28 by chezee

Rest is working great (just cannot turn OXRTK overlay - shortcuts not working, but somehow I was able to turn on QVFR thru settings.cfg) It might be worth checking the open XR layer order. OXRTK and QVFR need to be ordered correctly. Handtracking is janky and not really supported in DCS. Almost impossible to do a lot of things. Definitely try it if you're curious, but I'm pretty sure you'll switch back to normal in short measure 1 AMD 7800x3D, 4080Super, 64Gb DDR5 RAM, 4Tb NVMe M.2, Quest 2
chezee Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 yeah, played with handtracking and meh. also upgraded ram to 64gb... not bad - need to play with settings a bit

Qcumber Posted May 5 Posted May 5 NVPI- I would personally avoid forcing settings to DLAA. You have the DCS setting mgs to DLSS and quality. There should be a setting there to automatically use the latest version of DLSS. QVFR- Try reducing the foveated region to 0.33 x 0.33 if you can tolerate it. This makes the foveated region 10% of the overall image rather than 20% (0.45 x 0.45). Also see if you can tolerate a peripheral resolution of 0.5. Reduce smoothen focus view edges to 0.1. DCS settings- These look ok but I don't bother using anisotropic filtering as I don't really notice any difference in quality and it has a small impact on performance. Have you tried setting DLSS to balanced or performance to see how it looks? 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
