Cold War Germany Map – FRG Harz Region & Air Defense Network

First off, a huge thank you to the team for this amazing map. Many regions are already beautifully represented, and the overall atmosphere really captures the Cold War era.

I would love to see the western Harz Region and its associated Cold War military infrastructure receive more attention in future updates.

Why the Harz?

The Harz mountains were not only geographically prominent but also strategically significant during the Cold War. Several key SIGINT and communication sites were located on the major peaks, and numerous towns and mountains nearby hosted military installations and radar stations. These landmarks were both visually dominant and militarily important, making them ideal additions to a Cold War-themed map. For now, only the eastern part with the Brocken is represented on the map.

General Suggestions:

• Please improve elevation detail and layout of towns.

• At least add some simplified versions of Cold War-era sites as visual navigation landmarks.

• Consider adding some more historically accurate SAM sites, radar sites, or barracks in the region for mission-building potential.
