Pepper211 Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Hi everyone, I’ve been flying the F4U Corsair recently in DCS and I’m really enjoying the aircraft, but I’m struggling a bit with bombing effectively—especially with understanding and using the aiming reticle properly. So far, I’ve tried a few dive bombing runs, but my accuracy is inconsistent. I’ve also experimented with different dive angles and release altitudes, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly, or even using the right technique for the F4U. Could anyone share some tips, techniques, or best practices for bombing in the Corsair? Specifically: What’s the correct way to use the aiming reticle for bombs? What dive angle and altitude work best? Any recommended bomb types or loadouts for training? Is there a preferred airspeed or release timing to keep in mind? Any help or pointers—whether it’s a written guide, video tutorial, or personal advice—would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and happy flying! 1
Saxman Posted June 26 Posted June 26 The Mk.8 gunsight reticle was designed for two purposes: The first is for ranging. If you knew the wingspan of the target, you could estimate its distance using the rings. IE, a 30ft wingspan is at 400 yards if its wings span the middle 50mil ring. A 60ft span would be the same distance if it spanned the outer 100mil ring. The ladder below the pipper was used both for lead shooting, and for aiming ordinance. I haven't done much practice with dive bombing in DCS to see how it compares, but my experience in other simulators is if you're coming in at about a 70 degree dive, putting the target roughly half way between the top of your cowl and the bottom of the 100mil ring should place your bombs right on top of it. I don't know if that will translate to DCS, too, but it's worth a shot. 1
