hamza_Khan Posted Thursday at 03:24 PM Posted Thursday at 03:24 PM I've noticed that I only pick up contacts on AA radar when they are around 40nm or closer, I am unable to detect targets at 60. 70 etc. nm. meanwhile, if I try same with f18, it detects target at those distances. is it expected behavior?
Exorcet Posted Thursday at 07:06 PM Posted Thursday at 07:06 PM The JF does not have the best radar. The target, aspect, and radar settings also play a part: Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
supersylph Posted Thursday at 08:14 PM Posted Thursday at 08:14 PM Yes. When you are searching for large aircraft such as KC135, your detectable distance is about 70 nautical miles. When you are searching for heavy fighters such as F14 15E, if the conditions are good, you can find them at about 50 nautical miles. If it is F16 18, it is about 40 nautical miles. On paper, the JF17 radar doesn't have as far a range as the F18 16. But since your missiles can't reach that far, it doesn't matter much. And within the effective range, its operation convenience and response speed are better than the F18 16. 1
