SgtPappy Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I have noticed that the AIM-9s tend to have intermittent growling during maneuvers. It appears that this happens if you roll the F-4 relative to the target. In the first track, you will notice that despite the AIM-9J being uncaged, it will still lose lock when the F-4 is maneuvered. The other track shows the AIM-9J losing lock if the target is flying straight and the F-4 rolls side to side, implying the lock stability is a function of bank angle relative to the target. I believe this is the case for the AIM-9B and AIM-9M, but I have yet to test them. I will attach tracks for other AIM-9 versions when I find time. Please let me know if there are other tests I should perform. Thanks! AIM-9J intermittent lock.trk AIM-9J intermittent lock-non-maneuvering target.trk
