EtherealN Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 More information on the machine would be interesting - graphics card, driver version etcetera. If the machine is equipped with an ATI card, disable catalyst AI and/or revert to 8.12. There are some 9.x versions that seem to help in some cases, but 8.12 is the better one. dragony Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Here I see two possible causes: 1. Windows Server 2008. Is it really necessary to use server OS for playing games? Usually server OSes by default optimized for background processes and there can be disabled hardware graphics acceleration, etc. Sometimes it's easier to just install second OS for games, like XP. 2. Unsure, but looks like you're using old videocard driver. WBR, =FV=BlackDragon. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RaH Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Normally I don't use this rig for gaming, it was built with the purpose of work, I use it for my 3d Modelling and CGI rendering platform hence Server 2008 and 16 gigs of ram. Since I had heard so much about this game I thought I'd try it I chose this comp cause my normal game rig is 1.8 gig proc with 2 gigs ram and 256 meg GeForce FX 5700LE I didn't think it had the guts to run it. Which I was right, trying to run it on XP Pro SP3, Using those specs it throws an Opengl32.dll error whenever I run Launcher. This happens for both SP and MP. There is no hardware crippling processes running on the Server 2008 box, I have it running minimal roles currently. What I may do is install a new HD and see if I can't throw XP on there. Dual boot on this system is not an option, I'm using several 500 gig drives in a raid0 I don't want any partitioners touching that.
RaH Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Removed all traces of old driver, now using updated drivers still getting same Stackhash crash location. Am also using the DCSMax tool. Of note on my XP box it still crashes with updated drivers as well.
RaH Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Got it working on XP, turns out there was a remnant of an old driver in there, so I'm happy I can run it but it's crappy on that whimpy computer. I think I'm gonna do the secondary disk thing for my S2k8 box it has far better hardware. Appreciate the help. Happy piloting.
RaH Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Last post then this thread can be closed. Resolved under Server 2008. Method used to resolve is same method used to trap and Server 2008 or Vista Stackhash exception. 1. Open your Start menu and click Control Panel 2. Browse to “System Maintenance” then “System” 3. In the left panel, select “Advanced System Settings” from the available links 4. You should now see the System Properties Window, which will have three sections. The top section is labeled “Performance” and has a “Settings” button. Click this button. 5. Select the “Data Execution Prevention” tab. 6. Select the option which reads “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select” 7. Use the “Browse” button to locate the executable file for the application you were trying to start when you received the StackHash error, and click Open to add it to your exceptions list. 8. Click Apply or OK to commit your changes. This small change it now works great under Server 2008, I added both the Launcher and DCS and the game runs flawlessly. Hope this helps someone else.
