Mouse curser doesn't work

Bought the game yesterday. tried to do a training mission, and the mouse cursor would not click on the highlighted items. It would hover over the item, but not click it for any action. Toggled the mouse clickable cockpit mode (alt C). Now it moves the views around, but the pointer doesn't appear on the page. Thanks for your help.
