OT(sort of) - graphics card settings

I have an Nvidia GeForce 6800 that is running with all of its default settings. Can anyone offer some guidance as to how to best tweak the settings to optimize performance for LOMAC/FC?

Maybe I can get some advice if I post my specific problem/concern.

 

I have, at the least, a decent system: P4, 3.4ghz, 1gb DDR SDRAM, Nvidia GeForce 6800. Yet, even with my graphics setting not all the way up (I've got water on medium, no civilian traffic and 50km viewable area), my FPS is still troubling.

 

I have been focusing mostly on A-A in the F-15 using the pre-set missions and I've got FPS dropping into the SINGLE-DIGITS during combat and when around the airbase! FPS never going above 20-25 inside the cockpit. This is totally unacceptable and not what I would expect with a P4, 3.4ghz. I suspect the problem is on my end, not the game's.

 

Please help.
