EtherealN Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I thought that under Windows Vista [or 7] that multiple cores were utilized. This was why I was planning on a new i7 computer...... DCS is a singlethread application. It will never run on several cores simultaneously - at least not without a MAJOR rewrite of major parts of it. The advantage that you get from Vista and W7 is that these OSes, as opposed to XP, actually have more than just rudimentary multicore support, which allows them to flip the application thread to whichever core has the least other workload. This can actually have massive performance implications, although it is not quite as "good" as "true" multithreading. Maximus_G has run extensive tests indicating that there is no added benefit to the 3rd and 4th core somewhere on the forum. I don't have the link handy right now though. The i7 will still have benefits though, in that it can place the OS and background stuff on other cores, and that it is a better architecture. It's not a night-and-day change though. Doc. Caliban Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I tried medium visible range, but it makes enemy units too easy to spot. Playing with low visible range must not be challenging at all as nothing can hide from you. manne Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Turning down the water to medium seems to have worked :) That's the only setting on medium now and I have about 35 fps. I did test it in a different mission though, but I think it will also be in the mission I tested for my initial fps. :)
