I've been complaining about a chronic stuttering/hiccuping problem with Black Shark in various forums like this one for the past year -- first with the Russian version I DL'd immediately, and then with the US DVD version I later purchased in the States.

I've done everything to try to fix it: relentless defragging; adjusting pagefile size; set all graphic settings on low; all drivers up to date; edited the options lua file; sound acceleration turned down; added RAM; upgraded my CPU; turned off anti-virus and all unnecessary processes; tried a sound card; etc., etc. Nothing worked.

Then last night I tried this: In my nVidia control panel last year, I had forced off anistropic, AA and vsync, and forced on threaded optimization. For the heck of it, I turned all those settings to application-controlled except vsync, which I left forced off. I noticed a distinct and immediate improvement. The sim is still a resource-hog and rather glitchy, but I can at least play it now without wanting to put my fist through the LCD. Just FYI to any other sufferers.

Good input, indeed.:thumbup:

But also remember this;

- When people over at Nvidia/ATI or people who generally do QA for drivers/Games (such as ED's QA team) - they tend to test it using "Defaults". It's a real timesaver when you have <nn-thousands> combinations to test.

Not that "testers" intend to forget to test outside the "Defaults" - but it's hard to cope with all the possible combinations AND meet a deadline.

This means when you tweak around trying to override the defaults you may end up with previously undiscovered issues.

Defaults is good if you experience problems - tweaking is awesome if you dont. ;)

(Hint - the same goes for O/C btw).

Sticky?

I think this info should be made sticky. Adjusting defaults (for me) always ends in problems EXCEPT for certain situations and programs. In this instance, changing back to defaults improved FPS. Should this advice not be given to novice users and or tweakers?
