Hello, I've just bought DCS in Eng and patched to 1.0.1c. My problem is that during the flight, randomically after 3 min or 30 min, I get a popup error telling that an error occurred on DCS, modname graphicsxp.dll (sometime the modname is "unknown"..), and the flight ends to the menu inside the game, not a CTD. Hope I'm clear.

Directx is the last version. My rig is:

E8500 3.2 Ghz

Ati 4850 512Mb

4Gb Ram DDr2 1066Mhz

WinXP Prof 32

Samsung T240HD at 1920x1200

With this rig DCS runs quite smooth with FPS always within 30-40, with all setting maxed out and no mirrors, water on normal and mid visb range.

I tried several catalyst version: 9.12-9.10-9.6 and now I'm at 8.12, but it seems it doesn't help... I'm really depressed beacause I love this sim!

Any suggestions?

before posting the files .crash I wanted to know is anyone is running fine without probpems DCS with an ATI 4850 like mine and which driver version has on.

I'm also having some other crashes on FSX and Modernwarfare2 so I guess I'm gonna try also to reinstall the OS.

Thanks for the support

Alessandro

Have you tried disabling Catalyst AI?

A full DxDiag report (guide here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44466 ) would help getting a complete picture of the driver and hardware situation to see if there is something that stands out.

yes, Catalist AI is disabled (tried also in standard). Have only AA on 4x, AF on 8x, Mipmap maxed, Vsync on "unless application...".

Tonight I'll past the dxdiag as you suggested.

I was wondering if the error could be related to a shortage of video memory (512), having a res of 1920x1200 and cockpit at 1024. Can it be?

If can help, the first crash I had after 1.0.1c was a dcs error with modname d3dx9_38.dll.

Do you know about users running fine BS with a 4850? because I'm not sure if that card works well here.. it worked always very well with a great performance but lately is giving me some stability problems both with BS and also with crashes on FSX... that's why I was thinking to a clean WinXP install after 6-7 months since last c: format...

Any idea?? obiously graphically it misses something...

Yes, there are people who fly with 4850 sucessfully;

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=731728&postcount=9

Plenty of other 4850 from the search I did - altought there are enough of 4850 owners who have problems (microstutters etc) - but IMHO not more than any other owners of other graphics.

Now back to your DXdiag;

"Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2"

There could be plenty of problems related to SP2 - upgrade to SP3

I've seen reports regarding SP2 owners solving their problems when going to SP3.

You may have to "refresh" your DX9 after upgrading;

Thank you, the good new is that I don't need to change my 4850, the bad is that I got another error just few min ago. Attached the crash files and error.log.

This time the modname of the popup error is d3d9.dll

In the temp I have an error.txt at 14.06 and the crash files at 14.15....:noexpression:

Thanks for your help, I will try the new directx, and if it does not help, with SP3...

Do the SP3 thing, you have a *new* GPU, with new drivers - and a very old Servicepack.

As for *mods* - as in modifications - be sure that you don't use that, or try to eliminate which modification that is the offending one.

Also be sure that you use the patched DCS, 1.0.1c

ok, I will go with SP3, my directx is already up to date.

DCS is already at 1.0.1c.

As for *mod*, if you mean mods with modman, I have installed modman but actually I don't have any mod installed in BS.;)

So now I guess I will go directly for a c format and a fresh install of XP SP3, hope it will solve everything!

thanks

ehy Panzertard, I was wondering if it's better go to Windows 7 64bit or stay with XP 32bit SP3, what's the best for the performance and stability with BS?? If better W7 which version of it?

thanks!

Windows 7 x64 is generally more FPS stable, some improvements regarding FPS as well. It depends on your system really - and if you play other games that requires different config.

But I love all the variants of Win 7 I've tested so far. Not going back to Vista/XP for any reason whatsoever.

I see you're running "Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)", and an asus P5QL PRO - I cant predict how it's going to be for you - you just have to try. ;)

well I'm thinking seriously to move to W7 x64 instead of stay on XP 32 SP3, the most important thing is understand if there any known issue/problem reportes by user using Window 7 with Balck Shark, and there are not in your case :smilewink:

thanks
