Erdem Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Hello all, In FAQ it says: "An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6" I'm wondering if "Hard drive volume serial number" includes USB Mass Storage as well? Like external harddisks? I'm wondering because I plug in and out external drives constantly, and I don't want to lose activations.
EtherealN Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) As far as I know, it is the Hard Drive volume that the simulator is installed on that matters. I also plug in and swap HDD's and USB drives all the time (at any one point I have three HDD's in, but swap the third one out depending on task, plus the USB drives, the iPod and so on) and have had no issues. So it would only come into play if you plug in a pendrive and install DCS on the pendrive. (EDIT: Though, even then it wouldn't mean that it would eat installs every time you plug that drive in and out - it would just add the 3 points of HDD# when checking the hardware, so if there is no other change happened then it would still only be 3 when using that pendrive, which would not be enough to cause a new activation. I think. However, if you plugged the pendrive into another computer, then it would require an activation.)
