Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Thirty flares is not enough - I need more. We should have an option like 60 FLARES / 30 CHAFF - although I firmly believe that a load of 60 FLARES/ 60 CHAFF would be the ideal. Is there a way to do this change in the CONFIG folder ?
GGTharos Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 No, there isn't. Trying to push it for 1.2. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
D-Scythe Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 What exactly are you trying to push? Is there a particular chaff/flare configuration for the F-15 you had in mind? (I'm assuming we're talking the F-15 because the Russian birds had their decoy loads altered in V1.1)
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I hope they release it as patch for 1.1 . I noticed that wingmen use their with abandon, so when you jump in their cockpits you find yourself without any.

(I'm assuming we're talking the F-15 because the Russian birds had their decoy loads altered in V1.1) I'm hoping to get either 90/60 or have the values stored in meinit where they can be altered as a minimum. Having it added to the payload editor would be nice but it's much more work than just readingit in from mexinit and the devs have quite a few things on their plate. D-Scythe Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Well, if we are going for ultra-realism, the F-15C cannot possibly carry 90 chaff and 60 flares. The closest configuration would be 90 chaff (in 3 boxes), 45 MJU-7 flares (3 boxes) and 12 MJU-10 flares (2 boxes) = 90 chaff and 57 flares. Personally, I prefer 90 chaff and 75 MJU-7 flares, so I agree that it would be nice if such an option could be added to the payload editor, ala Janes F-15 and F/A-18.
GGTharos Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Umm...who said 90 chaff? 90flares, 60 chaff, since LOMAC pumps out the flares in twins. Anyway, as I said ... putting it in the editor is additional workload for which there may not be enough time. We'll see :/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
D-Scythe Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Completely unrelated, but just out of curiousity, why do you prefer the 60/90 (I usually put chaff first) config? Personally, even before I use up all 16 pairs of my flares now, I'd usually be out of AIM-9s, and have to resort to AIM-120s. Just curious, that's all, since I would rather dodge BVR missiles than heat-seekers. And if they do make the R-77 and AIM-120 the killing machines they're supposed to be in V1.2... ;)
GGTharos Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Hehe, simple :) I -fairly- often end up merging. When I merge, I let a flare fly about once every second from about 3-4 nm out pre-emptively (maybe from closer, I don't recall) This usually defeats all heat-seekers, and I usually successfuly return the favor with my 9's. Simply put, pull out of ab (If you have lost of smash, go all the way to idle and put your AC in a slight dive) and pump flares to defeat 73's and 27(E)T's before they're even launched! THen all you have to do is win the merge. As for the 120 and the 77, I honestly would like to see them fixed (Actually I want ALL missiles fixed, and given realistic physics! Your launch speed and altitude and the targets MUST MATTER!) but I don't want the 'fix' to just turn'em into prob Pk=1 ... chaff, maneuvering, all these need to be effective to some degree. And please keep in mind that it is not unlikely that SKILLED pilots will easily evade many missiles. Go online and engage any n00b, they'll fly right into your missiles ;) Skilled pilots can often expend their entire BVR loadout and not hit squat.
