zakobi Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I'm "just" thinking out loud here, so no serious thought in it, besides i don't what is hard-coded etc. As a helo pilot we want as much detail we can on the terrain so we can easier spot targets, trees houses etc. Problem is that, that could conflict with fast movers. Fast movers don't need that details, but on the other hand need to see far. So what about dynamic horizon? The LOD could eliminate certain units on the ground for the fast movers, and the helo's and mud movers don't need to see the next 40km, when a little hill is in the way anyway. As said i don't know if it hardcoded and can be changed etc, but here's at least one function you could use. 1.17 times the square root of your height of eye = Distance to the horizon in nautical miles
