BS crashed on me last night. I was flying the "Clear Tsharkvelli" (spelling?) mission in singleplayer. Here's the content of the crashfile, just in case it might help the devs pinpointing the problem. OS is Vista32. I think I was in that mission for over 30 minutes before it happened.

Could you supply a DxDiag file? Looks like a video driver problem.

Well, I have to admit I'm running old NVidia drivers to be able to run Falcon 4.0AF and Freefalcon on my 8800GT under Vista. Something like 169.XX.

I have gone to a dual-boot system recently and I'm running Falcon on XP now, so I should really update to the latest drivers.

Just the same, could you please verify that really is the problem because I'm an adept of the phrase :"If it ain't broken,...."

Yeah, I hear you on "if it ain't broken". I only update drivers when things are breaking too (and sometimes rollback as well, if that's what's required, since newer does not always mean better).

What I'd suggest would be a test with a newer driver. If the problem stops happening we've found it, if it doesn't stop happening then you can rollback as desired. That driver really is quite old though (more than two years).

An unrelated note though: 32-bit Vista means you are not actually getting use of all your RAM. Your machine is only acessing 3.3 gigs of memory since your GPU is hooking a portion of the 4GB limit of 32-bit operating systems. This should not be at all related to the issue you are experiencing, just a note that struck me as I was looking through your DxDiag.

Thanks got your reply.

I will give it a test, and will report back, because I'll probably see some FPS increase as well.

On the memory-usage under Vista32 : I'm aware of that, but there's a couple of things that keep me from upgrading (listed in order of importance) :

- she who must be obeyed : "A couple of hundred of euro's for what ?" (In contrary of what some people here may say : sex is still better than BlackShark :D)

-going 64-bit means completely reinstalling all software

-if it ain't broken, .....

-I'm too lazy

Besides that, in my opinion it's the 512MB 8800GT videocard that is the bottleneck in this setup.

So far so good. No crazshes yet with the latest drivers, and a small increase in FPS indeed.

Small side tip: if you purchase an OEM version of Windows you can slash your license cost in half. I believe the legal setup in the EU is such that you do have to purchase hardware to be eligible for that (and you are not allowed to transfer an OEM version to a new computer) - my brother solved the former issue for his MacBook through purchasing a USB memory stick as the "hardware". :P

But yeah, I agree that your first upgrade would probably be the graphics card.

Good to hear it seems to work though. :)
