Funkyjazz Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hi, For A-10 a I7-970 is recommended. Not because of the core amount but as the 970 is the fastest CPU right now. Before my i7-860 (which i can OC to 4,0 with a Prolimatech Megahalems) i use to have a E6600. That CPU runs stock on 2,4. I was able to stable oc it to 3,4 but it got hot. So back to the CPU power required for A-10. If i am able to OC my I7-860 to 4,0, A-10 must run very fluid. But my E6600 would also do the trick when oc-ed to 3,4... Why is a I7-970 recommended? EtherealN Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 (edited) Because it is a processor the development team has a lot of experience with and can give the desired performance at stock clocks. Recommending overclocks is not an option, since that means recommending users to void the warranties of their computer parts. The 860 would be roughly equivalent, and an OC'd 860 will obviously beat a stock-clocked 970, but again: recommending OC's in the official requirement/recommendation list is just not an option. Thanks for the answer! The I7-970 and the I7-860 have a total different architecture. Will that also count when it comes to frames? I rekon that a i70860 oc'ed to 3,4 will be slower than a stock I7-970...or is the difference nihil Without sollutions there aren't any problems CASE: CM 690 II / PSU: CM 750 Realpower / MB: MSI P55 GD65 / CPU: I7-860 @ 3,8 GHZ / MEM: 4x2GB OCZ 1866 Platinum / SB: Creative X-FI Extreme gamer / GPU: ASUS GTX 275 / HD: 2 x Samsung F1 1 GB / OS: WIN 7 64 Bit H.E. / MON: 1 x Samsung Syncmaster P2770HD & 1 x Samsung syncmaster 940bf / Logitech G27 / logitech G110 / Logitech M705 / Logitech Extreme 3D pro / Saitek Proflight Yoke, 2 USB Throttle controllers & rudders / TrackIR 4.0 /
EtherealN Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 The difference is not nil, but it is small enough that I doubt you'd find the difference with anything short of a full statistical workthrough. The 970 does have other advantages (larger last-level-cache, slightly faster unCore etc) but I don't think you would notice the difference during regular gameplay if the 870 is OC'd to 3.3GHz. Pulling up the FRAPS FPS counter might show you something though.
