sereupin Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Hello guys, first of all, i am sorry if i am here probably asking something obvious or stupid, but i am new of this things and I would like your kind help if it is possible.. :helpsmilie: I bought with my friend a licence of FC2 in common, and now we would like to put on my private server IBM x345 a multiplayer server for FC2 .. and maybe in the future using also blac shark togheter.. Now, I have installed all correctly, but when I start the multiplayer link (LockOn FC2 Multiplayer) or the normal link for offline game (LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2) the process starts, but after few seconds crash and close.. I ask... what can I do ? the server is good.. 6 hd of 74gb ... intel xeon 2,4ghz ... i would like to use it for this server of FC2.. but HOW ? what is wrong? I thought that maybe the game starts and needs a good video card, but usually servers have not video cards for this... it would be great and very usefull to have a dedicated server executable, like I had with battlefield 2 dedicated server.. i just needed to click on executable of ded server, and then with a software, I could setting and control the server of game... but here in FC2 i cannot find this function... somebody can help me ? :) thank you in advance for the help!
Grimes Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Sadly it needs a video card because "proper" dedicated server software does not exist yet for DCS or FC2. sereupin Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 from my point of view it is very sad as illogic.. in Battlefield 2, you can host a server without a problem from the right .exe, just with a click. so I really don't understand why Eagle Dynamics and DCS team don't create this.. it is so illogic to cannot use a good server as what I own, just because they didn't create this executable... And, they never considered that it is expensive to create a system with a good video card ?! most of server for dedicated server I think that doesn't have video cards , so ..... strange... anyway thanks for your helping...
Grimes Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 They know, a proper dedicated server has been requested for a while now. As it stands a host must be in game either playing or as a spectator. Thus graphics need to be rendered by the host system. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. I am glad that they(ED,DCS team) already know this problem to have a dedicated executable server, indipendent from to have a good video card... but do you think that they will develop and solve this big problem ? or they will ignore a so big problem for thousands of customers ? what do you think ?:(
Grimes Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I hope it gets fixed sooner than later. I have absolutely no idea when that will be though. Moa Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I think ED are well aware of users wanting a dedicated server. It is a bit of effort to create one though and I think they've had other priorities so far (like creating DCS:BlackShark and then expanding it with Warthog with its advanced weather, bump mapping, avionics and other goodies). I'm sure it is on their big TODO list. These days, if you choose carefully you can get a motherboard with onboard support for DirectX 9. If you limit the number of frames rendered on the server per second then it is reasonably close to 'headless' operation in that you can use a rackmount system without dedicated video card (although it's true you also could say that "nearly a virgin" is not the same as "a virgin", :) ).
