Bubb Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Hey guys, I have no idea how to approach this hence why I'm asking in this forum. I want to build a center stick mount for my spanking new TMWH. I found an excellent "base" for the center stick mount which would also make it portable. It's an HERCULES guitar stand (tripod) as shown in the picture here: From my measurements it looks like I have to extend the main "arm" another 7cm. On top of it I want to mount this : I know I'll have to remove the stick's base plate which is no problem. But what will I need to put on the tripod that will hold the stick base without welding or anything complicated... I appreciate any help :) as I've mentioned earlier I have absolutely no clue on how to tackle this on my own!
Cezar11 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Here's how I did it. Had all the materials I needed right there in the basement. Took all of 15 minutes... plywood base.. 2 2x4's screwed to the plywood base then a piece of 3/8 plywood cut using the WH base as a template. Counter-sink the screw holes so the WH can be attached. very very stable and this design allow my chair to scoot up under the stick and put it more "in my crotch" LOL Edited February 2, 2011 by Cezar11 Home built i5 quadcore. dual ATI 4850 in xfire mode. 16GB ram Warthog HOTAS, Thrustmaster Rudder, TrackIR 5, TM MFD's, windows 7 64 ultimate.. 40" primary screen, 19" secondary [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LeLv30_Superbus Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Here's another way to do it. I used two Saitek Throttle Quadrant clamps. They just happen to have the exact same spacing for the screws. Go figure. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Click to view pictures of my deskpit
Bubb Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 I'll use your method LeLv! I can build a clamp like wooden mount from spare plywood I have! Looks like the easiest solution without to much hassle and just a bit of wood cutting! Not too bad :) Thanks for the idea
LeLv30_Superbus Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Hey no problem Bubb. Make sure you protect the WH from below. I used a plastic film for book covers. When you remove the bottom plate the insides are left unprotected: Remember - you need two of the things, one won't do. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Click to view pictures of my deskpit
Bubb Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Woot! Here's what I did : Made a 4cm C clamp-like from plywood. Drilled the holes on the top plate and just stuck it on my chair. It takes some pressure to slide it all the way in which means its pretty stiff and doesn't move at all! I used my PS3 package stuffed with 6x1.5literes bottles of water and just put the throttle on top! Works pretty sweet and damn flying center stick feels a whole of alot better!
