4c Hajduk Veljko Posted August 6, 2005 Author Posted August 6, 2005 Rwriting LOMAC to support multiprocessing won't just 'cost 20000 out of the blue'. The who thing needs to rewritten with threads in a specific manner and optimized for SMP. It's actually a pretty big task, and, FYI, does 20000 even cover a single person's salary for a year? I spent three moths working in Russia! Siberia (Yakutia), town of Udachny! It is a diamond mine there, and I do know that people were making (relative to Russia) good money there. I don't know how much are programers paid in Russia! However, I assume 20000 US dollars would cover sallary for a month, for four or five programers. Four programers X 160 hours each, that is 640 hours of programing. Or contract an expert, just as what Microprose did with Falcon 4.0 when they came up with multiprocessor code! I do understand that Microprose is no more, however, Eagle Dynamics has a unik oportunity to grab the market and hold it for a long time to come! On a final note, I want to say (again) that I am very strong suporter of Eagle Dynamics and the Lock On series, including FC! I bought FC the day it was released and bought additional copies for my friends! I will buy 1.2 the day it is released, weather or not it supports dual core processors! 4c Hajduk Veljko Posted August 6, 2005 Author Posted August 6, 2005 actually the way to prove it was cpu or gpu limited would be to try it with serveral combinations of gpu and cpu to see.. hmm sort of like this one http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/athlon_64_geforce_7800_gtx_scaling/page8.asp which for some strange reason seems to get like 2x the framerate of the one in xbit labs. now for a pop quiz. 1) 7800GTX 1024x768x32,4AA,16AF - the faster the cpu the higher the framerates. Is it GPU or CPU limited? 2) 7800GTX 1600x1200x32,4AA,16AF - the faster the cpu the same frame rates I get. Is it GPU or CPU limited? Thank you for providing that link. I did not catch it. Very interesting results indeed! How could these two tests be so different? When I say two, I mean FiringSquad and XbitLabs. On my machine (see sig below) there is very little diference in fps regardless of the resolution!? I do not use any mods, any custom made skins. Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Not for a good C++ programmer with multi-processor knowledge ... at least not down south of the boarder! And remember you salary is approx 1/2 of the cost of you to your company! So, more like £120,000 p.a. i not mean for a programmer, i mean in general terms ;)
