I'm a bit out of loop--- is there a $100 difference in these 2 cards?

>>>differences are: -100mhz core clock and -128 SPU's far as I can tell vs. the following

Also- are these "dual cards" in one? Crossfire built in? I'm not going to bridge 2 units together anymore. I mean- what's the point? I don't do shooters- at all- and ED's stuff apparently doesn't care.

Current GPU's (2 in Crossfire)

They are standard, one-GPU cards.

I'll dig up some comparisons for you to make the value judgement, one sec.

Of interest:

(Just for the Tesselation, not suggesting that you actually play that game. :P )

And finally, and oft' overlooked aspect:

Pictures stolen from the review I linked above.

I basically think that the 6970 does not appear worth the extra money. Below you can see a graph that plots performance vs expense (using the release SRP's) - they've standardised the results of all the benchmarks they ran for the review:

Obviously, you'd want to move their position on the price axis according to the price you've found those units at. Also note that the review samples were reference board designs, if I remember it right, so they might not be exactly representative of the linked products, but it's the same Cayman silicon in them anyway so the difference should be minimal.
