Newbie Input Help. tIR, Sidewinder, G13 & mapping

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I recently got hold of the awesome A-10C Warthog. I'm absolutely loving it and it has rekindled my passion for flight sims.

However, after a couple of days reading the manual and getting to grips with the sim, I've come to realise that my both my input setup, and my understanding of what needs to be mapped, are both woefully lacking.

I was wondering if any kind souls could give me some newbie pointers.

Viewing:

I've seen so many posts over the last few days talking about Track IR being pretty much essential, and a 'game changer', so I went ahead and orderer one. With the pro clip thing too. It arrives today.

So I guess my viewing solution is sorted. My main question with regards to the Track IR is what button/thing should I be using for zooming in and out? This might be answered better below.

(Lack of) HOTAS

I don't have a HOTAS yet and I don't think I'm going to be in a position of buying one any time soon. (£250 for the warthog HOTAS :( )

What I do have is a crappy MS Sidewinder Precision 2:

And a Logitech G13 left hand controller:

The G13 allows three 'pages' to be switched on the controller. But that might be getting complicated.

So my questions are;

What should I be mapping? What would you map to these controllers?

I guess throttle should be the throttle on the stick. Not ideal but better than nowt.

What should I use for TrackIR zooming/pausing/centering?

What is essential for the main maps and hats/mini sticks? I've only got two, the hat on the stick and the joy on the G13.

I'm thinking Slew for the stick on the G13. That sound about right?

Maybe TMS or DMS for the hat on the Sidewinder? Er.. bit lost on this one.

I guess the main thing though would be to be able to set SOI, Slew, SPI and release as easily as possible. Unless I've missed something.

Then how would I trim? Some kind of button to hold down?

You get the gist of what I'm asking.

Thank you in advance for anyone that has the time to answer my protracted question.

Many thanks

-Gabe
