coolts Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 When Jtac gives threat locations relative to target, do you simply have that in your head when ingressing so you know where to expect trouble or do you mark the general location on the TAD? I was thinking of placing a mark point in the general area given by JTAC for threats, then switching to the steerpoint dial Markpoint mode and either tasking 2nd element with SAM suppression using the datalink or treating these locations as secondary targets once my primary was smoking. It could get a bit fiddly though. And can you still see JTAC red triangle in Markpoint mode, (not at home to test right now). JG2_Miller Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I generally concentrate on my target and listen to what he tells me about SAM's in the area. If there's something like SA-11, SA-17 or even SA-10, then it's time to make a good attack plan. If not, it's often possible to just avoid the engagement range of the SAM's. For example you have some Strela's in the area. Just come in high at about 20k and drop your bombs. Nobody is even thinking of shooting at you at that altitude. If you have a SA-17 there, it's time for some low flying action with Mavericks ready. And if you have a SA-10 there, just ask JTAC which psychiatric hospital he comes from. What I'm trying to say is you should generally just listen and maybe note the threats and look for a way to entirely stay out of their range. 2xZU-23 = come in at 15k e.g.

I was just wondering if you bother to get an "x marks the spot" visual reference on your TAD, (and if so, is my suggestion the best way), in the general location of these threats to help you; Thread the needle to get to your primary and out again Take them out if you care to and have spare ordnance A bit like the preplanned threats on Falcon HSD. I find that very useful. ps. 20k? What are you? DCS:747? I can't see the lovely tree shadows from way up there ;) Edited November 17, 2011 by coolts [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals
