As I turned off the computer last night I thought to myself " You know what would be really good in that game " (LO/FC - & yes I do talk to myself in third person...) "being able to use map view to do the RTS right click thing"

By which I meant order units to attack specific targets in the same way as you would in a real time strategy game : from the map view find your wingman (or another flight) right click on them, then click on a target & have them attack it.

Maybe you'd have to make it that the map view defaulted to the same center & scale & orientation as the HDD, so that there wasn't a whole lot of time lost working out which plane is you & which one is the one just off to the left there...

Makes much more sense than looking at the 5 planes coming at you then trying to lock one up, order WM1 to attack my target, unlock, lock next plane, order WM2 to attack my target etc...

Much simpler than trying to have drop downs to cover all possiblities, can be used on ground, sea & air targets. Just make it so you can't do it while paused to keep it interesting & only do-able while you've got time to do it, not while you're actually in a furball.

Then I logged on this morning & saw the battlesim.com thread & read (coincidence of coincidences!!!) :

"Mission Creation and Editing

TFCSE offers a powerful and flexible mission editor designed to permit any type of planning requirements. A real time command module for runtime mission modification is under development. An assets management module for integration to the mission editor is also under development."

-A real time command module for runtime mission modification is under development- that would be good ...

Unfortunately - just noticed the release date was 2005 ...

Still - any comments on it as an idea for a target selection interface ?

Cheers.
