Pikey Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 So, I've been a long time reader and never contributed anything because i'm surrounded by experts. However, I recently fixed my Trackir vector after having given up on it for years. Lets start with it's condition: the clip is bent, the cap is shabby looking, the TIR has a broken stand that snapped off so is gaffa taped to my monitor. They have survived me moving flat more than 4 times in a bag full of generic cables, but its just started working better than ever and here is why. Symptom; I noticed the display would always pick up my clip image perfectly but whenever in game if I moved my head more than 10 degrees in rotation in any direction it would go haywire. It tended to be one side mostly that did this. Having noticed the TRACKIR would display images properly I didnt understand how it could be so wrong when it looked so right so I studied the images that were being tracked. The first thing I noticed is the "RED" splodge on one of the reflectors was taking turns to swap between them. I never noticed this before. So I tried covering them up each in turn and found that the system worked better when it could see only the 3 reflectors on the clip. Then I realised something that I probably should have tried in the begining... The hat that comes with the Trackir system has reflectors on its tip of the cap and behind it in case you wanted to reverse it. The software was attempting to track this fourth reflector but it is confused at an angle, and at a certain rotation goes mental. TLDR; I simply taped over the reflector on the hat and it worked flawlessly enough to click buttons without precision mode or zoom. God I wish i knew that ages ago. I hope to god someone else can benefit from my stupidity on this one. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
