ralfidude Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Ok this is a two-fold question: So I just played a mission in DCS WORLD and came up on a BS moment, where at 26 thousand feet I tried taking out a boat. Mission name is the Bay i believe. Well, I get engaged in the middle of dropping the GBU and the kill is apparently by a BUK site SA-11. We killed ALL the radars down there, and there was one SAM vehicle left with the missiles on top, but no radar. From my experience in this situation, it should have been rendered useless without the radar support vehicles, at least that's what DCS A-10 always taught us. 1. Is it possible for that vehicle to lock and shoot at airborne targets without the radars?? I did hear that certain SAMS have the visual firing mode with a scope without the use of a radar but that its used in close range because its missing radar support, but I didnt think they would be able to shoot at 26 thousand feet with it... With the radar, I completely understand. In anycase, I later figured out that the Sa-11 was probably being controlled by a player. I went back there with the A10 to kill him and saw he was hauling ass outside the AO and just engaging everything in the area as he moved. After finding him, fired 2 mavericks, both of which missed. He continued to fire at me and I jinked every one of his missiles. Game crashed and I went to check the track to see how in gods name BOTH my mavericks missed him ( I know that it has a 80% chance of actually hitting but two in a row is shady) but the track is not playing. Its giving me the option to play the mission by choosing a plane to enter. 2. Whats going on there? Or was that a server specific thing with the track?
