Hi,

I originally purchased LOMAC years ago and used to run it on an ancient Pentium 4. I loved it so much that I later went ahead and purchased the first Flaming Cliffs online.

Years have since passed and I'd like to play it again. I've just tried to install Flaming Cliffs 1.1b on a new computer (Windows 7 64bit) but I'm running into problems regarding activation. Specifically, when I use the activation key I have for Flaming Cliffs, I receive the following:

"Activation failed. You have exceeded the number of activations allowed for the given Serial Number..."

My copy may have been reinstalled a few times over the years (primarily due to having to reinstall Windows itself) but I've never given the activation key to anybody else.

I've attempted to file a support ticket (ticket ID: 14443) for this but it's been several days now and I've had no response. Can somebody here let me know how I might go about resolving the issue?

Hi. Your problem may be related to Windows 7 - FC 1.1 uses the old Starforce and you need to get an updated driver for this to work in Windows 7.

[ EDIT: This should hopefully lead you the right way to try this: http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/ ]

If the license key is indeed fully spent, please allow a few days more for your ticket to be actioned. Due to several recent product launches the support staff are experiencing an unusually high load at present. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a while so you guys can get around to it.

By the way, I don't think it's a StarForce issue since I installed the updated drivers before attempting to activate it.

Okay, it's been a week now since I entered the ticket and still no response. Can anybody here give me an indication of when I might even hear from support?

Support is currently under extreme load due to multiple recent product releases. They are working hard, but there is a considerable backlog. Apologies for the inconveniance.

In the meantime, might I tempt you with DCS World? It is free software and includes the Su-25T as well as all new bells and whistles added to the engine since FC 1.12b.

You can get it here, no login required to download: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=21&end_pos=137&lang=en

I'd really just like to try Flaming Cliffs.

Come on guys. I have no issue with purchasing software that has DRM as long as prompt support is available when that DRM gives me problems. It's now been ten days and not only has my problem not been solved but I actually have no idea when it's likely to be solved. This is terribly poor service and is preventing me from splashing out on BS and A10.

I understand your frustration, but I'm currently seeing 1200 active tickets. This does not include those tickets where support staff is waiting for the user to give more information. This is an extreme load that will take some time for them to dig through. Apologies for the inconvenience.

The reason why I suggested World in the meantime is that the Su-25T that is included is the same (though improved) as in Flaming Cliffs 1.12b.

(As a side note though, BS2, A-10C, P-51D and CA all have a new system where it is impossible to run out - whenever you spend the last activation, you'll get it back automatically after 30 days, in those titles.)
