rcoplien Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 When I start a server for a multiplayer game none of my friends can see the server name in the browser? Also why is there only around 10 t0 15 servers showing in the browser every time? Shouldn't there be alot more? I am really looking for servers with P51 in them. http://www.51stvfw.com Maverick_667th of the Black Knights 667th [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Echo38 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 That's how big the community is for DCS, I'm afraid. Look for my server "Peregrine Haunt;" it's primarily a dogfight server for the P-51, although it also has missile-less A-10s (the two aircraft are a fairly close match in a dogfight, closer than some WWII fighters are). Currently, I only host it every few days, but as soon as the dedicated server program is released, it should be up all the time. As for hosting: do you have the correct port forwarded to the correct internal IP address? Also, if there is additional hardware between the router and the external connection, is the router in a DMZ or something? Note that I'm not an expert on networking, so you may want to do some research on DMZ's and stuff to be sure that you feel safe with such a thing, but it is my understanding that a DMZ'd router can be safe (and may be necessary), if there's other protection (such as a hub?) between the outside world and the router.
WarthogSmurf Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 That's how big the community is for DCS, . Well no. A lot of squads run there own servers (private) and due to a bug a lot dont show in the server lists. Also due to TARS a few squads still run 1.1.1.1 . Not many ppl are interesed in flying a non-coordinated air quake and want a bit more indepth gameplay (thats why we sim and not play HAWX or so) The community is pretty nice and hopefully it will grow a bit more with all the modules around.
rcoplien Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 Found out how to get my server to show on the list. I turned on the DMZ on the router IP that my computer is associated too. 192.168.1.3. It will show you your router IP in the game when you want to setup a server in game so I took that IP and set the router settings to DMZ it. Yay!! http://www.51stvfw.com Maverick_667th of the Black Knights 667th [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Echo38 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 (edited) Not many ppl are interesed in flying a non-coordinated air quake and want a bit more indepth gameplay (thats why we sim and not play HAWX or so) It isn't a binary slider. I desire 100% realistic aircraft modelling, physics, etc. But I don't wish to fight in a real war, nor do I want to simulate fighting in a real war. My fondest wish has always been to fly real fighters in friendly mock dogfights, and that's pretty much what I like to do in sims. I fly on maximum realism/difficulty settings; why would you imply that I am like a HAWX player, simply because I'm disinterested in pretending I'm in a real war, and despite the fact that I wish for the aircraft to be simulated as realistically as possible? What about real-life civilian dogfighting schools; would you call those pilots HAWX players, too? I turned on the DMZ on the router IP that my computer is associated too. As Interceptor suggested, you'll want to ensure that you have adequate protection other than your router; if you have no sort of protection other than what's in the router, then DMZ'ing the router is (as I understand it) basically throwing the door wide open.
