Maachine Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 hey guys, sorry if this subject has been beaten to death but i've been chasing answers and have come up empty. i have played FC v 1.112b in the past. i have a few questions for you as i want to start playing again 1. looking at the saitek x52 hotas setup, seems decent enough of a setup. i'm not a serious sim player but i want something a little inexpensive and better than my logitech pro extreme. your thoughts? 2. should i skip trying to play the versions i already have and just upgrade to FC 3? 3. is FC 1.12b still playable online? or again.....easier just to update to FC3? 4. hows the community? i keep reading about how DCS' games are all now integrated. does this mean that people with the DCS combined arms game can play against us warthog flyers? curious how that works. thanks in advance for any answers. been a while since i've played this game so i may have many questions for you guys. thanks again
EtherealN Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 1. looking at the saitek x52 hotas setup, seems decent enough of a setup. i'm not a serious sim player but i want something a little inexpensive and better than my logitech pro extreme. your thoughts? I think the non-pro x52 is probably amongst the best value for money you can get as far as HOTAS go. Fully functional but still cheap. Be nice to it though - it is plasticky. Used it until I broke the PS/2 connector on mine, whereupon I picked up a TM Warthog. (And to be fair, it wasn't really the stick's fault that that connector broke, I didn't take care to not have a cluttered desk.) 2. should i skip trying to play the versions i already have and just upgrade to FC 3? FC3 is still in beta, so there are some issues, but generally speaking I'd say that yes, there really isn't much of a reason to play 1.12 if you are thinking about getting FC3 eventually anyhow, since it is definitely playable and there are a lot of improvements between them. I wouldn't go back to 1.12 unless I was stuck on a computer that simply can't fly anything more recent. :P 3. is FC 1.12b still playable online? or again.....easier just to update to FC3? Playable... I think so. But I have no clue whether you'll have anyone to fly with and against on that one. Also note that with FC3, you'll be in the same world as all DCS users, so the "crowd" won't be limited to just people with exactly the same product that you have. 4. hows the community? i keep reading about how DCS' games are all now integrated. does this mean that people with the DCS combined arms game can play against us warthog flyers? curious how that works. Basically, "DCS World" is now a free-to-play game that, as part of the free deal, gets you the Su-25T as a flyable. There are then other products as paid-for plugins, including Black Shark 2, A-10C, Combined Arms, P-51D, and FC3. Exactly how it works in a given missions is up to the mission designer. But basically, yes - CA players can kill and be killed by everyone else that play any DCS World module (or the base Su-25T). They can also do JTAC work for A-10C's. Maachine Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 well i'd hate to upgrade to FC2 when FC3 is close to being finalized. and as for all of DCS stuff being "compatible"......that is awesome. and a great idea. upgrade to FC3 it is. and ya i was talking about the non pro x52. in regards to the x52 breakage? i'm a grown man now. i stopped taking out my frustrations on controllers a long time ago.
Maachine Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 JTAC work for the A-10C's? what does that mean?
EtherealN Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 JTACs are the ground people that call targets for strike aircraft. A player that plays as JTAC will thus be able to mark targets etcetera for human A-10C pilots. jieF-KAcY1A [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
