Maachine Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 I suggest you actually start saving for some peripherals then? Like the pedals, if you haven't got them. ya i'm going to pick up some pedals sooner or later. before i start buying a lot of gear i want to make sure i'm going to stick with playing this game. found microsoft flight sim x for a .01$ on ebay, so i have that now too.
Maachine Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 ya absolutely, i never try to assume, seems to bite me in the ass. my plan was to consult the manufacturer before i bought the ram. my laptop has (2) 2 gig sticks. so what i'm looking at is (2) 4 gig sticks

Sven2157 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) SATELLITE A660 It looks like it will support 8GB of RAM( Max Memory Supported ); that is if those are the specs for the correct machine you are using. The RAM Update WOULD actually help in your case. Your Video is Sharing System RAM and can actually use up to 1696MB( 1.6GB ); see note #5. 5 Memory (Main System). Part of the main system memory may be used by the graphics system for graphics performance and therefore reduce the amount of main system memory available for other computing activities. The amount of main system memory allocated to support graphics may vary depending on the graphics system, applications utilized, system memory size and other factors. Computers configured with a 32-bit operating system can address up to 3GB of system memory. Only computers configured with a 64-bit operating system can address 4 GB or more of system memory. Sven2157 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Just pop the RAM lid open and check out what's inside. It shouldn't affect the warranty or even have a warranty sticker on it, I think. :) Well, his warranty is most likely up, as that model Toshiba is Discontinued. I was just getting him to check if his SODIMM Memory Slots could handle a 4GB stick. If the motherboard can handle it he is good to go; which by the way seems to be the case. The motherboards used in these production line computers don't always support everything that is available for purchase. Some boards will not accept such a large single stick. So before you purchase, you need to check if the system can even use it. ;) Regards, =170= Sven ☠ 2157 Windows 10 64 bit | Intel 7th Gen. i7-7700K | NZXT Kraken 41 Liquid CPU Cooler | MSI Z270 M3 Gaming LGA 1151 | Cooler Master V1000 80+ Gold PSU | EVGA GTX 1070 | EVGA GTX 1060 (Dedicated Physx) | 32GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB PC4-19200 | 128GB Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSD NVMe M.2 (System Disk) | 2TB RAID 10 (4 x Seagate ST1000DX002 FireCuda SSHD) (Files Disk) | 64GB Intel Cache Disk (1280GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD RAID 0) | 48GB Page Disk (1280GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD RAID 0) | NZXT H440 Razer Edition Case | 1 x ViewSonic VG2439m-LED 24" [MAIN] (GTX 1070) | 2 x ViewSonic VG2436wm-LED 24" [LEFT/RIGHT] (GTX 1060)
Maachine Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 thanks LT, i have that part handled, i've taken apart and repaired laptops in the past. i'm familiar. and it doesnt affect the warranty. most manufacturers dont put a sticker on that panel.

Maachine Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 hey Sven. having issues with my x-52 and your profile, could use your help. the .pr0 file is loaded into the correct folder. its loaded up and working with stick. is the .LAU file just for the keyboard or does that need to be loaded into a joystick profile in the options? with or without loading the profile under "joystick" does nothing. i've also tried clearing out all joystick commands in options. what i dont get is how does the SST software communicate with the game. its like the game doesnt recognize anything the joystick is doing. do i need to load a profile into the controller options? or does a file need to be in a certain folder? lost here and tried a lot of stuff
Sven2157 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Hey Maachine, The "A-10C Warthog.pr0" file goes into the following directory( this is the default ): "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Saitek SD6 Profiles\" folder. Once the file is there, start the Profiler( "Click Start>>All Programs>>Smart Technology>>Profiler" ). You will see a little joystick icon in the tray, by the clock. Make sure that your slider on the throttle is set to 1/2 way( 50% ) and then right click the icon and select the "A-10C Warthog" profile from the top of the right click menu. Now the Profiler icon will turn green. Move the "=170= A-10C.lua" file to: "C:\Users\<YOUR_NAME_HERE>\Saved Games\DCS\Config\" folder. Start DCS and go to "Options", then the "Controls Tab". Click anywhere in the column for the "Saitek x52 Pro", and then click the "Load Profile". Select the "=170= A-10C.lua" That should be it. If you have the Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, or the Pro Flight Combat Pedals, you will need to right click that icon separately, and choose the "A-10C Warthog.pr0" for it too. When you are finished - and this is important - you will need to right click the icons again and choose "Clear Profile". Then you can close the Profiler. When you want to play again later, all you need to do is start the Profiler and activate the A-10C Warthog profile again. Now, the way that the SST Software works, is that it simulates button presses while the game is going. That is why it is important to set your slider; otherwise the key command combination will "act" like it is being held down. For instance: To preform Coolie Hat Up, you press 'U' on your keyboard. With the profile, if you hold the Pinky Switch and press POV 1 Hat up, it sends the key command( 'U' ) to the game. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else! ;) *** EDIT *** Now, the way that the SST Software works, is that it simulates button presses while the game is going. What I should have said here, is that it simulates Keyboard Button presses, either Single or Combinations, period. Whether or not the game is going, is irrelevant. You could program your x52 Pro for Microsoft Word short cuts. When you assign a Key press, or combination to a button on the x52, it is the same as pressing it yourself. Sorry Had to clarify... Maachine Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 got ya, i figured out that it simulates keyboard presses....which is why i assumed the keyboard layout should be uploaded as a profile for the joystick. i read that if you hvae the stick plugged in when you install the drives, it screws up some stuff. i'm going to try to reinstall and see what happens. so far from what you told me, i had it right. oh, and when i "test" your profile with the SST software, no buttons show up at all from the joystick, which is why im thinking it a software issue
