Large fps when starting in F1 view

When I start in the P-51 cockpit view there is a massive fps drop, almost to the point of the game freezing. This lasts for around 30 seconds, and then everything is back to normal. Happens in SP & MP.

 

I have a 7970 with AMD 13.2 beta 8.
