SomeKindOfOctopus Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Hi, I was annoyed at how sticky and awful my x52 felt, and I couldn't seem to fix it. I tried a variety of plastic-safe lubricants, I tried polishing the contact surfaces, but it was still sticky and jittery. Powdered graphite worked okay, but I'd have to reapply it every few hours of flight time. What finally worked is applying some "conformable teflon tape." Not the stuff for plumbing, this has an adhesive backing and is strong enough to hold up to some abuse. It's sold in smaller quantities as "mouse feet tape." I can post a link, but I didn't want this to seem spammy, especially as this is my first post here. I've also polished the shaft that the centering ring rides on. Some of the problems come from the hole being slightly too big, causing it to bind from the off-axis force when you move the joystick. Polishing helps a bit. I also use some silicone-teflon grease and zip-tied the spring. In addition, you can remove some of the floppiness of the stick by wrapping the upper half of the shaft in a layer of tape (regular plumbers tape *might* work for that) where the rudder-locking plastic piece rides. This does involve disassembly, though. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the process. Initially, I looked into having replacement centering ring turned from delrin and made a CAD model with that in mind. The price for doing so is prohibitive, though. If anyone is interested I can put up the model, but I need to replace my broken calipers before the dimensions are correct.
