drz400dude Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Today was the final flight for the 81st FS at Spangdahlem AB, Germany, before offically deactivating in June. Been a pleasure to work with the A-10s. The aircraft will have a new home at Moody AFB, Georgia. FEAR THE HOG! Full story http://www.spangdahlem.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123348372
Cookie Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Very sad to see them go. :( What a fitting idea to have their last flight take them to the Fulda Gap. If I can manage to swap shifts I might actually drive down there to see the last four machines depart on friday. It´s a good five hour drive from my place, but it´ll probably be the last chance to see an A-10 in Europe. :( - Two miles of road lead nowhere, two miles of runway lead everywhere - Click here for system specs
drz400dude Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 Yea sad stuff. I loved the A-10s. I watched their FINI flight last week, and was on the ramp to watch them Taxi out one last time today. I know our USAFE commander was an A-10 guy and fought tooth and nail to get them to stay, but not even the influence of a general could convince them otherwise.
